Chapter 122
Thalassa’s brow rose slightly as she looked at Clark, waiting for his reply. Clark already had one prepared.
“It’s simple. I just had a hunch. Thalassa already told me everything you and your family did to her. And knowing how important the awards show was, I had a feeling one of you would try something again. But I must admit, I was quite disappointed to find out it was you. I thought you were better than that.”
Kris’s blood was above boiling point now, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. The only thing preventing him from punching the hell out of the man was that Thalassa was standing between them.
“Just get out of here, Kris,” Thalassa finally spoke again, her expression hard. “Be the man you claim to be and accept your deeds for once in your life instead of always finding someone else to blame.”
Kris was pained, knowing she thought so low of him, but he couldn’t give up.
“Thalassa, please, I just want to protect you. He’s not who he seems to be,” he said, looking at Clark, his jaw clenching. “Have you told her? Have you told her about the fact that every woman you were with while you were away in Ireland ended up supposedly committing suicide while you ended up with their fortune?”
Reaching into the inner pocket of his suit, he pulled out the file containing the report and handed it to Thalassa.” Here, you can read it yourself. Three women, all millionaires, all connected to this bastard somehow ended up dying and he ended up getting their money.”
He waited for the look of surprise or at least curiosity on Thalassa’s face as she briefly glanced through the report without taking it from him, but there was none as she replied, “I don’t need to read anything. Clark has already told me everything about how he lost the women he loved.”
Kris was taken aback, but it didn’t take long for the surprise to wear off as he sneered. “How convenient that he tells you just as I receive this report.”
Now he felt even more furious. He had no doubt that the bastard had heard from his contacts that he was being investigated, which was why he’d rushed to tell Thalassa his version before Kris could.
“You had no right to go digging up anything about me,” Clark said. “And why did you come here, Kris? To mock me for my pain? For the loved ones I lost? I knew you were many things, but this is just cruel of you.”
Fuming, Kris looked at Thalassa. “Lassa…”
“You just keep stooping lower, don’t you, Kris?” She shook her head, her eyes filled with disappointment that felt like a stab to his chest. “What do you want? To persecute Clark for losing the people he loved?”
Kris shook his head. “I don’t know what this bastard told you, but doesn’t it seem even a bit suspicious to you? You know I’m right, Lassa.”
He looked at Thalassa, waiting for her to stop him, to tell him that she believed him, but she only stared back at him coldly. Gritting his teeth, he walked out, hearing the door click shut behind him.
