Chapter 140
Thalassa wasn’t the only one caught off guard by Luisa’s offer. Kris and Alden were equally shocked.
“What?” Kris asked, wanting to confirm what he’d just heard.
“Yes. Since you don’t live with your family anymore, I’d like you to stay with us for a week until your wound heals a bit more.” Luisa repeated, smiling broadly. “What do you say? Do you accept?”
Thalassa had gotten even more rigid now, her face expressionless but her disbelieving eyes were fixed on Luisa who seemed oblivious.
“Uh… sure, I’d like to stay with you,” Kris said, his voice still stunned as he glanced at Thalassa. “But only if she’s okay with it.”
Thalassa tensed even more, realizing all eyes were now on her, especially Kris’s. His gaze was hopeful and pleading.
Her lips curled into a hard smile. “Why are you asking for my permission? The house belongs to Luisa too, so she can make any decision she wants. Excuse me, I have somewhere to be.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the room. Watching her leave, Kris’s expression fell, his hopes deflated. What had he expected? That she would jump for joy at the idea of him spending a week under the same roof?
“I’ll be right back,” Luisa said, following Thalassa.
Once in the hallway, she spotted Thalassa storming away, her movements rigid.
“Lassa!” she called, hurrying to catch up.
Thalassa paused but didn’t turn to face her, forcing Luisa to walk around and stand in front of her.
“What is it, Luisa?”
Luisa scanned her friend’s expression and posture. “You’re upset.”
Thalassa nearly choked on a ball of disbelief. “Good of you to notice, Luisa. You didn’t seem to care about that when you offered Kris a place in ‘our‘ house. You didn’t even discuss it with me first.”
Luisa bit when lip guilty, knowing Thalassa was right. “I’m sorry. You’re right, I should’ve consulted you first. But you heard Alden–Kris lives alone now, and in his condition, it wouldn’t be good for his healing to do everything on his own.”
“Alden can take care of him,” Thalassa pointed out, trying to keep her voice low. “He can live with Alden since they’re friends. You didn’t have to offer to bring him into our house, not caring how it would make me feel.”
“I thought you said his presence doesn’t bother you anymore?” Luisa questioned, then sighed, realizing she shouldn’t have said that. “Look, I know he can stay with Alden, but I want to do this.”
She took a step closer, and tentatively took Thalassa’s hand in hers. “I know Kris hurt you a lot, but he saved my life, Lassa. If it weren’t for him, I’d be dead by now, and you’d be crying over my casket, blaming yourself for it. Letting him stay with us for a little while is nothing compared to the sacrifice he almost made for me. So please, let me do this.”
Thalassa’s jaw clenched and unclenched as conflicting emotions run through her eyes. Finally, she nodded even though her expression remained uncompromising.
“Fine. You can bring him over, Luisa. But he’ll be your guest, not mine. Make sure he knows that.”
