Chapter 27
“Humiliate you? I wonder why you would even think that, Mr. Miller,” Thalassa said in her ever–so–sweet innocent voice.
“You didn’t even allow my mother to explain what kind of alliance she had in mind. And since we met you yesterday, all you’ve done is disrespect her–us.”
Thalassa raised a brow. “I am a businesswoman, Mr. Miller, I only form alliances where I see profits. Be honest with yourself. If you were in my shoes, would you have wanted to be associated with a company that’s on the cusp of bankruptcy?”
Kris gritted his teeth, knowing she was making sense, but at the same time, he felt this wasn’t just about business. It seemed personal.
“If you’ll excuse me, I have a lot to do,” Thalassa said with the intention of opening the door for him, but she had only taken two steps past him when he suddenly grabbed her by the arm, pulling her close to his body. Too close.
“What are you doing?” she questioned as calmly as she could when her heart was pounding inside her chest.
“Who are you? Why are you doing this?” Kris demanded, his breath fanning her lips as his cyan eyes bored into hers as if searching for something. “It’s you, isn’t it? You’re ”
“Thalassa?” She cut him off. “Was that what you were going to call me?”
Kris’s eyes narrowed. “How did you know?”
“You called me by that name at the masquerade gala, remember?” she said. “Now you’ve got me curious. Who’s this Thalassa woman you seem so obsessed with? The love of your life?”
She didn’t know why she was asking him that question, but she found herself holding her breath as she waited for his answer.
“No. She’s the woman I hate more than anything in the world,” he finally said.
His words were like a punch to her gut. Thalassa felt her anger rising. He hated her? The cheek of it.
Despite her anger, she forced a smile on her face. “Wow, you say that with such passion. What did this Thalassa do to make you hate her so much?”
“She is my ex–wife. She cheated on me before we got married and betrayed me so many times. She…” He suddenly trailed off, as if wondering why the hell he was saying all that to her.
Thalassa was stunned because this was news to her. He thought she cheated on him? Was that why he changed so much after they got married?
Anger cut through her emotions. How dare he judge her when he was having an affair with Karen all along through their marriage?
Feeling vindictive, she jerked her arm from his hold and said, “Well, I don’t know this ex–wife of yours, but after meeting you, I’m sure she had ample reason for cheating of you.”
Kris’s eyes blazed with a mixture of emotions as he gritted his teeth. “Is this you trying to justify yourself?”
Thalassa rolled her eyes. “You still think I’m your ex–wife,
“If it’s not you, then challenged, stepping closer to her.
1.won’t mind if I take your mask off will you?” Ki
When he raised his hand, Thalassa held her breath, waiting for him to take her mask off.
Chapter 27
Just then, the door to her office opened, and Luisa stepped in. “Oh sorry, T. I didn’t know you were busy.”
“It’s okay, Luisa. Mr. Miller was just leaving.” Thalassa said, taking a step back from Kris.
His eyes narrowed further in accusation, but he didn’t protest before turning and walking out of her office.
Luisa waited until the door had closed behind him before speaking. “I came as soon as I saw him confronting you.
“Thank you, Luisa,” Thalassa said, walking back to sink into her swivel chair.
Though she hadn’t been planning to hide her identity after today’s meeting, for some reason, she didn’t feel ready yet. Especially not after the conversation she’d just had with Kris.
