Chapter 41
Kris dropped Alden off at his company before driving to his own, Miller Textiles.
“Sir, your mother is inside waiting for you,” Millie, his secretary, informed him when he arrived at her desk. “1 told her you didn’t say when you would come back, but she insisted on waiting.‘
“Thanks, Millie,” Kris nodded before making his way into the office.
As soon as his mother saw him, she got up to give him a hug. “Oh dear, I really don’t like it when you’re upset with me.” 1
Kris sighed, hugging her back. “I don’t either, Mum.”
“Will you forgive me for not telling you the truth?” his mother asked once they pulled back from the hug “1 thought I was doing what was best for our family.”
For her sake, Kris flashed a smile. “You know I can’t be mad at you for long.”
They hugged again before his mother said, “But that’s not the only reason I came here.”

. Kris went to sit in his chair as his mother also sat down in one of the visitor chairs. “Why are you here then,
Mum?”
A knock sounded on the door, and Millie entered with a folder in hand. “Here’s the report you requested earlier,
sir.”
While Millie was placing the folder on the table, his mother continued speaking,
“Son, I’m really worried about how our stocks and sales are falling. And now there’s a portion of the internet that has turned against me because of the video that lowlife posted.”
Kris felt his nostrils flare at the insult directed at Thalassa, but he reined in his temper.
what do you suggest, Mum?” Kris asked with a sigh, He was honestly exhausted and could think of nothing at the moment.
“I’ve decided to accept the invitation for the Silverline charity function, which is in two days.”
Kris was surprised. “You’ve never accepted their invitation before.”
“I know, but I want everyone to see that I’m not the bad person that woman is manipulating them to think I am. I’m hopeful that it’ll help boost our company’s stocks. I…”
His mother paused as she turned a glare to Millie. “You’ve already brought the document. What are you still doing here?”
“Mum, don’t speak to her like that,” Kris chastised.
“I’m sorry. Excuse me,” Millie said before walking out of the office.
As soon as Millie closed the door behind her, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
“Lassa, I have some more information that might interest you. Oh God, I can’t wait to finally see you guys in person again.”
Millie was the temporary house help Zeke hired during their stay in Baltimore three years ago. The last time Thalassa and Luisa had seen her in person was on the day they went shopping together before they left for New

York.
Shortly after that, they’d lost touch. It wasn’t until one year ago that Thalassa had decided to reach out to her again. She’d wanted Luisa to take a job at the Baltimore branch of TT Fashioh, but that was when Millie revealed she was working for Kris as his personal assistant.
She explained that she’d been desperate for a job, and when she landed the position at Miller Textiles, it had been too late to change her mind.
She’d thought Thalassa would be upset at the revelation and had even offered to quit her job if that was what Thalassa wanted, but Thalassa told her not to because she would need her help.
From then on, Millie had been providing her with every important piece of information about the moves Kris and his mother were making to save the dying Miller Fashion Company.
That was how Thalassa had managed to stay steps ahead of them to continue sinking their company. She couldn’t have done it all without Millie.
“Lassa! Luisa!” Millie gushed that night when she arrived a Thalassa and Luisa’s house.
“Millie,” they both said as they engulfed each other in a group hug.
“Lassa, you look so different!” Millie said after they pulled back from the hug
Thalassa feigned a bemused look. “Bad different?”
“Of course not. Fabulous different!” Millie chuckled, then turned to Luisa. “You also look so wonderful, Luisa. Is there something in the weather in New York that’s different from Baltimore?”
“Oh, stop,” Luisa rolled her eyes. “You also look amazing
“really happy to see you guys again,” Luisa smiled, engulfing them in another hug. Just then, the doorbell
rang.
“That must be Zeke. He told me he was coming over,” Luisa said.

Millie suddenly let out a gasp. “Zeke?”
Thalassa frowned as Luisa went to get the door. “Yes. Is something wrong?”
Millie quickly shook her head. “No. Everything is alright.”
“Millie, is that you?” Zeke exclaimed when he saw her, his eyes widening slightly in delight.
Without warning, he came forward and engulfed her in a hug. Millie stiffened but could only let out a desperate sigh. It had been three years. How did the man still have the same effect on her?
“You look…” Zeke began saying once they broke the hug, pausing to think of a word. “Splendid.”
Millie couldn’t help but blush. “Thank you.”
“So, how have you been all these years, Millie?” Zeke asked
“Ugh,” Luisa groaned. “You can talk about that later. Right now, we have to talk about something important. Millie is going to give us information about Linda Miller’s next move.”
