After leaving the table, Luisa hadn’t even gotten past the hallway leading to the washroom when Alden suddenly grabbed her arm and held her back. 

“Luisa, please let me explain.” 

Luisa stiffened, then jerked her arm from his hold. “Explain what? You don’t owe me any explanation.” 

She tried to appear aloof, but she couldn’t keep it up for long before she hissed. “You told Millie to invite us here because of Kris, didn’t you? He made you bring Thalassa here because he was going to be here, didn’t he?” 

Seeing the need for honesty in her eyes, Alden couldn’t bring himself to lie. He ran his hand through his hair as he admitted, “Yes.” 

Luisa took a step back. She couldn’t believe she’d been foolish enough to think he’d sent the invite because of her. 

‘She knew she was being unreasonable because Alden never told her he was organizing this hangout for her. It was 

she and Thalassa who had assumed his intentions, so she had no right to feel this way–so betrayed. 

She felt even more foolish because she didn’t understand why it hurt her so much. After all, Alden was nothing to her. 

“Excuse me,” she said, attempting to continue on her way, but Alden held her arm again. 

“I also wanted you here, Luisa. I wanted to see you as well, he said, his eyes gazing into hers. 

Luisa felt her heart flutter as she stared back into his eyes, but she knew she couldn’t entertain it. She couldn’t 

trust him. 

“Please let go of me,” she said through gritted teeth. 

Alden sighed and released her. “Look, I’m very sorry, and I know you’re disappointed, but Kris and I are doing this for a very good reason. Please, let’s go back to the table and you’ll understand why soon enough.” 

Without another word, Luisa turned and headed back into the restaurant with Alden following. They arrived to the sound of Karen’s loud voice echoing through the place. 

“That’s how she made me lie for her several times years ago. I thought I was doing the right thing because I considered her my best friend. All the times she cheated on you and even tried to trap you with a baby,” Karen was still ranting. 

At her table, Thalassa was tightly gripping her glass as rage bubbled up inside her. She couldn’t believe that after what they talked about in her office, Kris had planned to bring her here only so he and Karen could insult and humiliate her. 

“Enough!” A loud growl vibrated through the restaurant as Kris shot to his feet and slammed his fist on the table. 

He glared down at Karen, his eyes filled with disgust. “I said I don’t want to hear a word. Not a single word from you!” 

Karen also got up, confusion and anger mixing on her face. But I don’t get it. You said you were bringing me here to make it up to me for distrusting me, so why are you still trying to defend that bitch?” 

A cold smile curved on Kris’s lips. “Do you really think that’s the reason why I brought you here? To make it up to you even though you’re the most disgusting person I’ve ever met?” 

Karen’s heart skipped a beat. “Then why did you bring me here? Why are you talking to me like this?”
