“The love birds are finally here!” Aunt Cynthia exclaimed excitedly the moment Kris walked into the house. 

His family were gathered in the living room, and they all had smiles on their faces, but their smiles dimmed when they noticed the gloomy look on Kris’s face as well as the fact that Karen wasn’t with him. 

“Kris, where’s Karen?” His aunt questioned. 

“Nephew, where’s your wife? You two went out to enjoy some quality time together, didn’t you?” His uncle supplied. 

His daughter, Tessa, was sitting on the floor in front of the nanny playing some Lego. Without answering his aunt and uncle, Kris sank down on the floor beside his daughter 

“Hey baby.” He said and pressed his lips to her forehead. 

‘She stopped playing temporarily to look at him. “Dada.” 

The sweet, innocent smile she flashed him made his heart squeeze painfully. He knew the things that happened today were going to be hard on his daughter, but he hoped he was making the right decision. 

“Kris, why aren’t you answering us? Where’s your wife?” His mother finally joined in the questioning. 

Kris kissed his daughter for the last time and rose to his feet. “Mum, can we go and talk in the study?” 

His mother frowned. “Kris, what’s so hard to answer about that question that you can’t say it in front of all of us?” 

Kris looked at his daughter. He knew that she was still young and probably wouldn’t understand most of the things that were going to be said, but he still wasn’t willing to take the risk of having this conversation in front of 

her. 

“Mum, can we just go and talk alone?” 

“Okay, fine.” His mother finally agreed and got up to follow him into the study. 

“Son, are you going to tell me what’s going on? What’s all this mystery? Where’s Karen?” 

Kris took a breath and answered. “Karen is in jail. I had her arrested.‘ 

His mother’s eyes widened. “What? You had her arrested? For what?” 

Kris’s nostrils flared. “Karen lied to us, mom. I found out that she made up the whole story about Thalassa cheating on me. Those pictures…she got them by drugging Thalassa and having a bastard strip her naked and acting like they were having sex. They assualted her.” 

Linda’s heart skipped a beat. This was the last thing she’d expected to hear, and what it could possibly mean had her nearly going into a panic, but she maintained her calm as she spoke. 

“Kris, what are you talking about? Who told you those lies? It was that ex–wife of yours, wasn’t it? How could you even let her convince you that Karen is capable of something like this?” 

Kris grated his teeth. “Thalassa didn’t convince me of anything, mom. I conducted the investigations myself and discovered the truth.” 

“Even so,” his mother began to argue, “How could you just have Karen arrested for pete’s sake? All for your ex- wife? Kris, Karen is your wife, and she’s also the mother of your daughter. You’re taking your daughter’s mother away from her!” 

“My daughter doesn’t need a woman like her in her life.” Kris pointed out.

“No, you’re wrong! A child needs both parents, but she needs her mother the most. Your daughter is barely three years old. What are you going to do once she starts asking for her mother? How are you going to explain that you put her mother in jail because of your ex–wife? What are we going to say once the public finds out about this?” 

Kris felt agitated with the arguments his mother was making. As much as he agreed that this was going to be hard on his daughter, he didn’t like how his mother was treating what Karen had done like it didn’t matter. 

“Mum, did you even hear me? Karen took Thalassa to a nightclub on the night before our wedding and drugged her. Then she paid a man to touch her and invade her privacy. That was how she got the pictures she used to make me believe that Thalassa had cheated on me on the night before our wedding.”
