The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike novel Chapter 104

Chapter 104

“But no matter how experienced I am. I’m still not good enough, right?” he asked.

For a moment, Rosalie seemed like something was stuck in her mouth.

Lucas laughed at himself “Actually. I’ve thought about changing my job before you said that. After all, working in the Environment and Sanitation Administration, I can see how Im going to spend the rest of my life. I still want to face some challenges when I’m not yet 30 years old.”

“Challenges?” Rosalie thought. If the old Rosalie was given the choice to choose between an unknown and challenging life and a stable life, she would probably choose the former.

However, after experiencing so many things, she knew that stability mattered the most.

Rosalie took a deep breath and said, “You’ really don’t have to care about what I told you that day. I just don’t want you to waste any more time on me. I don’t have feelings for you, so I can’t be with you.”

After a pause, she uttered clearly. “If I do love you, I’ll be with you even if you’re down and out. But if I don’t love you, I won’t be with you even if you become successful in the future.

A hint of disappointment flashed across Lucas’ face. Then, he smiled. “Really? Then that means I wasn’t wrong about you. How could the person I like be money-oriented”

“Are you still going to resign?” Rosalie did not want Lucas to lose his job because of her.

Lucas said seriously with no negative expression on his face. Tve always wanted to give it a shot out there. No matter whether I can succeed in the future, at least I’ll never regret it, will 1?”

Seeing Lucas’ determination, Rosalie knew that it would be useless to persuade him, so she said, “Well… I wish you the best.”

“Thank you!” he said.

When Rosalie was about to leave, Lucas said, “Rosie, you’re a good woman. I’m not lucky enough to make you fall in love with me. You don’t have to feel any guilt. My resignation has nothing to do with you. I just hope I can give the people I love a better life in the future.”

After leaving Lucas’ office, Rosalie felt a stuffiness in her heart. It was as it she had an indescribable sadness.

Two days later, Lucas left the Environment and Sanitation Administration. Everyone in the Environment and Sanitation Administration also organized a farewell party for Lucas. They had a meal outside together.

Rosalie also ate with them. After the meal, Lucas treated everyone to sing in the karaoke.

When it was over, Lucas said, “Rosalie, let me take you home for the last time today, okay? I won’t have much chance to do so in the future.”

Rosalie agreed. She did not refuse him this time.

Lucas drove to the entrance of Rosalie’s residential area. Rosalie got out and said to Lucas, “Goodbye.”

Lucas hesitated for a while before saying, ‘Goodbye.”

It was a simple word, but it contained so much meaning.

The pursuit was destined to be fruitless from the beginning. However, Lucas did not regret it.

The woman lived a harder life than he imagined. Few people could endure such ups and downs, but she was like a plant after

a severe winter. No matter how harsh were the snow and ice, she would eventually blossom.

Her beauty was inadvertent. It was not eye-catching, but it was attractive. Even a soul would feel warm when she treated them gently.

Lucas wanted to ask if she already had someone she loved. If she did, he was wondering who it was.

Somehow, when Lucas was about to ask the question, the man he had seen before, who had called her Rosie, suddenly flashed across Lucas’ mind.

The man’s attitude toward her was unlike a brother to his sister. Instead, he treated her like a lover whom he did not allow others to touch.

“Could that man be the one she loved?” he wondered.

In the end, Lucas did not ask.

*I don’t have the right. Maybe if I can succeed in the future. I’ll be qualified to stand in front of her…” he thought.

Lucas drove away, while Rosalie returned to her rental home. However, before she opened the door, she saw bright lights shining through her home.

She thought, “I turned off the lights before I went out. Could it be…”

Rosalie froze and immediately opened the door to see all lights turned on and Jonathan sitting in a chair.

“You….” She walked into the room. “It’s already late. Why are you here?”

“I should be the one to ask you that. I don’t think you have to work overtime or be on duty today. Why are you home so late?” he asked as he looked up at her.

“A colleague quit his job. Everyone went out to have a meal with him as a farewell, Rosalie said.

“Which colleague?” he asked.

She hesitated for a moment before saying, “Lucas.” He could find out even if she did not tell him anyway.

He raised his eyebrows. “Did he send you back again today?”

Rosalie was quiet, but her expression was a tacit acknowledgment.
