“Okay,” Warren answered respectfully. 

Matilda cooked four dishes and one soup for dinner, which was not bad. 

The small square table seemed to feel more crowded than usual because of Warren’s participation. 

While eating, Matilda said to Warren, “After what you did today, the entire neighborhood knows that you two are married now, so don’t do something similar in the future. By the way, the baby in Amelia’s stomach shall have the surname Haab. You don’t have a problem with that, do you?” 

Warren’s eyes flashed slightly as he tightened his hold on his fork. 

“No,” Warren said. 

“Another thing. Did you discuss your marriage with your family before this?” Matilda asked again. 

“I can decide my marriage myself. I’ll find the time to talk to my family about it soon,” Warren replied. 

“Good. I don’t want your family to object and then seek out my daughter to kick up a fuss,” Matilda said. 

Warren nodded. “Of course, I won’t let my family trouble Amelia.” 

After the meal, Warren took the initiative to gather the dirty dishes and carried them to the kitchen for washing.

“Aiden, I really love your mommy, to the point I would gladly give up my life for hers,” Warren said. 

“I don’t think so. If you love Mommy, you wouldn’t have treated her like that at the beginning. Mommy said if you really loved someone, you could never bear to make that person sad, not even a little bit!” Aiden argued. 

Warren’s eyes flashed with pain. He put down the dirty plate in his hand, squatted down, and looked straight at his son. 

His son looked like him in many ways, but his eyes were like Amelia’s. When the boy smiled, it made Warren feel as if he was looking at Amelia smiling. 

Unfortunately, because of his recklessness and stubbornness back then, Amelia stopped smiling at him. Even Aiden didn’t smile at him anymore. 

“That’s because your daddy is very stupid. I was so stupid for not realizing how deeply I loved your mommy. Now, I’m being punished for all I’ve done,” Warren said in a low voice. “Aiden, don’t be like me in the future. If you meet someone you really love one day, don’t be as stupid as me and hurt your favorite person with self-righteousness. You will regret it for the rest of your life.” 

Aiden listened quietly. Even though he had hated his father all the while, at that moment, he felt none of that hostility. On the contrary, he inexplicably found his father to be a little pitiful!
