Chapter 250
Jonathan was about to pass the bottle of water he just bought to Rosalie. However, he asked hurriedly when seeing her pale and frail face, “What’s wrong? Are you not well?”
She shook her head. “I-I just…” But at this moment, she couldn’t even mutter a complete sentence.
He frowned. Now, blood had almost completely drained from her face, and her forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat. She grabbed the steering wheel tightly with one hand while her body shook in terror. Her dark eyes were full of fear when he checked on her.
It seemed like she was having a mental collapse episode.
“You just what?” He pressed for an answer as he put the mineral water bottle aside. Next, he gently placed his hand on her hand that was clenching the steering wheel and removed it slowly. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. You don’t have to be afraid no matter what happens.”
His powerful, firm, and supportive voice rang in her cars.
Rosalie shut her eyes abruptly. She inhaled and exhaled deeply twice. Slowly and finally, she stopped her body from shaking uncontrollably.
“It’s in the past. There’s nothing to be afraid of,” she convinced herself inwardly.
She repeated the phrase like a mantra and slowly opened her eyes. Her gaze shifted to-Jonathan. “Nothing. I’ve just recalled the accident I was involved in years ago. As I thought about it, I’d say I’m lucky enough to survive.”
After all, if luck was not on her side at that time, she might’ve been killed on the spot.
“Perhaps there’s always light at the end of the tunnel? Even if the injustice I suffered remains unredressed, I’m still alive,” she thought.
Unexpectedly, Jonathan put an arm around her shoulder the next moment and took her into his embracement. He buried his face in her hair, and his scorching breath became heavier.
That alarmed Rosalie. “Jon, are you okay?” she asked.
She should be the one who was unwell due to her panic episode, but for unknown reasons, something was wrong with him
now.
Jonathan continued to lock Rosalie in his arms. When he heard her talking about the car accident and that she was at least alive, he suddenly remembered he had read the file on her years ago.
He recalled, “The information about the car accident… It indicates her car was also heavily damaged. If the collision deviated slightly and her car was hit at a slightly different spot, it would probably catch fire. The report also writes she fought tooth and nail to wriggle out of the car. How much pain did she suffer when climbing out of the car? Moreover… I almost lost her!”
His thoughts continued, “I could read that file indifferently and with no emotional reaction back then. I felt she was simply an ordinary character on paper, unrelated and meaningless to me. I didn’t know, however, that I would fall in love with this ordinary character I had previously not bothered with in the future. Fortunately, she survived. She’s still alive…” Jonathan. struggled to organize his inner thoughts and feelings.
“Jon?” Once more, her voice echoed in his ears.
Only then, Jonathan slowly lifted his head. His dark eyes were full of affection that could drown her. “You’re right. It’s true… That’s lucky.”
In fact, Rosalie was not the only one who felt she was lucky. He shared the same sentiments.
After returning to the Youngblood Residence, Jonathan asked his housekeeper to reheat and serve the herbal medicine. Naturally, the housekeeper brought candy and chocolate alongside the herbal medicine.
Rosalie’s face scrunched up when she swallowed the herbal medicine because it was too bitter. However, she tolerated the taste well, as the herbal medicine represented hope for her.
If she got lucky, she might have her own children in the future.
Jonathan peeled the wrapping paper off a piece of chocolate. With the candy clenching between his fingers, he fed it to Rosalie, and she automatically opened her mouth for it.
However, she accidentally bit his finger.
Immediately and by instincts, Rosalie wanted to back away so that his finger would leave her mouth.
“I’m sorry,” Rosalie quickly apologized.
Jonathan’s lips gently kissed the bitten spot on his finger. He asked, “Is the chocolate sweet?” His captivating voice resembled a gentle breeze rustling through a cluster of bamboo, with an irresistible seduction and allure.
Rosalie felt a warm blush rise to her cheeks. Although his question was about the chocolate, he sounded like he was referring to his finger. Meanwhile, the chocolate in her mouth slowly melted away in the warmth.
But at this moment, she couldn’t taste the chocolate’s flavor. Her entire attention was on his fingers.
“Is it sweet?” he continued to press.
Rosalie’s face flushed red. She would’ve averted her gaze away from him as her subconscious demanded, but an invisible force seemed to fixate her eyes on him.
She couldn’t look away from his face. There was an indescribable attraction in his eyes, expression, and movements, and she was caught in it, falling in his charisma without a means of escaping.
Her face was completely scarlet as she answered, “It’s sweet.”
