Chapter 399
There were no tears in her eyes.
“So I can’t even shed a tear, even if I want to?” she remarked inwardly.
Maybe some people were just destined to never find love.
The experience of being abandoned by Zachary in the past didn’t seem to teach her a lesson. She had actually fallen in love with Jonathan.
However, they were from two distinct worlds.
If she hadn’t brought him to her house that night, they would never have crossed paths.
In the end, she was the one who approached him first, only to become a pawn in his game. It was at that moment that she knew her place.
When Rosalie slowly walked out of the kitchen in the Youngblood residence, it was surprisingly quiet, and there were no housekeepers in sight.
Regardless, it was for the best because it saved her from embarrassment.
She seemed to have exhausted all her strength before finally walking back into the bedroom.
Her mood was completely different from when she left earlier.
“I am just back to square one,” she mumbled to herself as she stood in front of the mirror.
The woman in the mirror still had her makeup intact, wearing a white dress that accentuated her delicate face. Nevertheless, she had an unusually pale complexion, and her stunning eyes were filled with bitterness that had been repressed and self-mockery.
She felt alone once more, just as she had when she was released from prison.
If she wanted to live alone, she would have to rely entirely on her own efforts, even if it meant living at the bottom of the social ladder.
In truth, there was nothing to be afraid of at all. After all, she had already experienced it in the past.
Rosalie reassured herself and then stood up, opening her wardrobe and putting on the clothes she had brought from her rental home.
At that moment, she was grateful that she hadn’t thrown those clothes away. At the very least, she could leave wearing her own clothes without owing him anything.
Next, she neatly folded the clothes she had taken off and tidied. up the room.
Back then, when she moved out of the rental home, she didn’t bring much with her. Later, when he bought the house she used to live in, she collected some items from that house that held memories for her and brought them with her in a suitcase.
Her belongings were now reduced to one large and one small suitcase.
Then, Rosalie placed the bank card, jewelry, and property deed Jonathan had given her on the dressing table.
She reasoned that those items had never been hers.
“That’s how it should be. Perhaps this is the best ending for me,” she thought.
She hesitated, and her steps paused for a moment as she cheered herself up and prepared to leave the room. After pushing open the door that connected the two bedrooms, she entered his room.
The photo album was still on the cabinet. Rosalie walked up, turned to the last page of the album, and took out the photo of herself wearing a floral dress.
That photo had no meaning to Jonathan now that they had broken up. It was better for her to take it with her to prevent it from being thrown away by him in the future.
Shortly after, Rosalie returned to her own bedroom, picked up the two suitcases, and looked around the room.
In that room, there were too many memories between her and him, as if the air itself was still filled with his presence.
It was just that he would no longer have any contact with her in the future.
Their game was finally over.
On her 28th birthday, she realized that fate’s cruelty was even worse than she had imagined.
With her slender figure, Rosalie struggled a bit as she carried the two suitcases and descended the stairs. Finally, as she walked out of the main entrance, she saw the butler of the Youngblood residence.
The butler was visibly surprised when he saw Rosalie, dressed in plain and old clothes, dragging her suitcases, preparing to leave.
“Ms. Leighton, where are you going?” he asked.
“I’m moving out. Jonathan and I have broken up, so there’s no reason for me to stay here,” Rosalie replied.
The butler could not believe what he had just heard.
Surprised, he wondered, “Ms. Leighton broke up with Mr. Youngblood? Isn’t today her birthday? Mr. Youngblood has even planned a special birthday dinner for her this evening.”
Nonetheless, looking at Rosalie’s demeanor, it didn’t seem like she was lying, leaving the butler bewildered.
Rosalie didn’t say anything more and continued to drag her suitcases out of the Youngblood residence.
Behind her, the butler quickly called Jonathan’s personal assistant, Carlos, to report the situation and ask if he should bring her back.
Carlos was astounded when he received the call and could not stop staring at Jonathan by his side.
“They broke up? I can’t believe Mr. Youngblood had actually ended his relationship with Rosalie. His love for Rosalie is obvious to everyone. In fact, I’ve never seen Mr. Youngblood treat a woman so gently and protectively. However, considering what had transpired today and how Mr. Youngblood had left the Youngblood residence to come here directly… he commented silently.
Thinking about that, Carlos looked at the corner of the wall. If Rosalie had been there, she would have recognized it as the spot where she first met Jonathan.
