Chapter 743
He never expected her to uncover the truth of the case in such a situation, and it almost caused her to give birth prematurely.
If something really happened to her, he would never forgive himself.
He walked to the bedside and looked at her sleeping face illuminated by the gentle moonlight. Her eyes were slightly puffy, and her face was a little pale, with a few stray strands of hair clinging to her cheeks. Even in her slumber, her hands instinctively cradled her abdomen in a protective gesture, showing how much she cared about the unborn children within.
She was risking her life for these three babies.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” His voice quivered with a hoarse sob. “It was my fault for what happened back then. I was only focused on the personal gain it might bring me, without any compassion or empathy. I thought it was a trivial matter and didn’t consider what it meant to you.”
At that time, all he could see was the personal gain it might bring him. Moreover, the Hamilton family had never openly revealed to him that Yvette was the true perpetrator.
But he could guess who the perpetrator was based on some clues.
But at that time, he had no feelings for Melanie, so he didn’t bother to interfere in the affairs of the Hamilton family. To him, it merely signified the demise of a fiancée.
In the future, if the Youngblood family required it, he would seek out another prospective fiancée.
Indeed, that was all it meant to him at that time. His primary focus was on growing the Youngblood family and prioritizing his own interests.
Back then, Rosalie was merely an inconspicuous figure in his eyes, and he held no regard for her whatsoever.
Yet, as she rightly pointed out, an innocent person had been imprisoned due to his pursuit of self-interest. It was his apathy that had caused her harm.
However, no matter how many apologies he uttered at the moment, he couldn’t make up for her suffering in prison.
Jonathan caressed Rosalie’s hand gently, and the sight of her slightly deformed knuckles stung his eyes.
The condition of her hand was like telling him silently how cruel his decision back then was.
And he didn’t even know what he should do to earn her forgiveness at this point.
The moonlight filtered through the window and illuminated the room. The man stood by the bed, gently reaching out to touch the slumbering woman, fearing she

might awaken. There was a helpless fragility on the man’s face as if he would completely break down with just even the gentlest touch.
Rosalie hadn’t seen Jonathan in the hospital for a few days. Originally, her hospital stay was supposed to be just three days, but she didn’t want to go back to the Youngblood residence, so she opted to prolong her stay.
A designated individual was responsible for overseeing her meals each day. Rosalie forced herself not to overthink and relax. She would watch TV series or read through magazines.
Amelia also came to visit her once. After learning that Rosalie hadn’t met Jonathan, she couldn’t help but remark, “Even if there were issues between you two, you should’ve confronted him and resolved them. If there’s a misunderstanding, it’s best to clarify it sooner. Don’t end up like me…”
Amelia didn’t continue, but her meaning was already clear.
For Amelia, if Warren hadn’t approached her under the guise of love initially and directly explained to her the grievances of their families, she would not have hated Warren even if he persisted in seeking restitution from the Haab family. After all, it was her father who had acted wrongly back then. If Warren chose to vent his anger at her, she would have been willing to bear the consequences. At this point, she could not only hate Warren, but she also acknowledged that there was no way for her to love him.
After Amelia left, Rosalie only felt bitterness in her mouth.
“Misunderstanding…” she thought. If possible, she hoped so much that it was all just a misunderstanding. Jonathan had been unaware of the perpetrator’s identity the whole time, and there had been no conflict of interest involved.
At night, after Rosalie fell asleep, Jonathan walked into the ward again as usual.
Each day, and only during this precious time, he could linger by her side for a while longer, stealing a few more glimpses of her.
She would never know how precious such time was to him!
Just as he was about to tenderly brush a strand of hair from her cheek, her eyes snapped open.
Their gazes locked. His body immediately tensed up, and his expression changed drastically. He hastily retreated, stumbling back and turning to make a hasty exit from the ward.
He knew that she didn’t want to see him at all!
Even though he waited outside the ward during the day every day, she never mentioned wanting to see him. She would rather stay in the hospital than go to the Youngblood residence.

He knew that she dreaded the prospect of encountering him once she went back to the Youngblood residence.

But just when he had only taken a few steps, her voice suddenly sounded in the ward. “Wait!”
He stopped and couldn’t believe what he heard.
“Did she just ask me to wait? Did I hear it wrong? Or…” he thought.
