Once they got on the elevator, Kevin let out a sigh.
Dorothy glanced over, "What's up with you?"
"Just reflecting," Kevin chuckled. "You've changed so much since you first joined the headquarters. I think even without Mr. Lopez's shield, you can still tackle any challenge on your own."
He could still vividly remember the first time he met Dorothy.
Such a pretty young lady, full of drive and determination, yet there was an unmistakable hint of insecurity about her.
After Mr. Lopez tasked him with mentoring Dorothy, Kevin immediately guessed she must be the one Mr. Lopez had always had his eye on.
After all, in all these years working closely with Mr. Lopez, when had he ever shown any interest in the opposite sex?
His aloofness and deliberate avoidance almost made one question his orientation!
"I've always gotta grow up! Can't always have Everett babysit me," Dorothy said with a smile, looking at Kevin. "And you've been a great mentor, Master."
Kevin was pleasantly surprised to be called "Master."
"Ah, whatever little I know, I've learned it by shadowing Mr. Lopez! Without him, who knows where I'd be? My girlfriend keeps telling me I owe Mr. Lopez big time."
Just as Dorothy was about to laugh, something struck her.
"Wait, your girlfriend? You're in a relationship?"
Her reaction made Kevin a bit embarrassed.
A grown man, and he was blushing.
"Yeah, been over a month now."
"Does Everett know?"
"I haven't told Mr. Lopez," Kevin chuckled awkwardly. "Never seemed like the right moment. It's not like I can just burst out with 'Hey Mr. Lopez, I'm dating!' as if I'm using it as an excuse to slack off."
"First day at work, I was so excited I couldn't even sleep! Especially after meeting Mr. Lopez yesterday, this job is so worth it." Perdita's eyes sparkled as she mentioned Everett's name.
Her excitement reminded Dorothy of Karen back in the day.
With a resigned smile, Dorothy said softly, "Just focus on your work."
"Got it!" Perdita placed the documents she had been organizing on the desk. "I came early to sort out some data. Not sure if it'll be useful, but I figured it's better to have it and not need it."
Dorothy appreciated an assistant who took initiative.
It wasn't like she could or wanted to micromanage everything.
"Alright, you can go back now. My secretary will assign you tasks later."
"Okay." Perdita nodded and turned to leave, then suddenly looked back at Dorothy. "Ms. Sanchez, is Mr. Lopez picking you up from the office today?"

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
