Seeing them about to disappear from his sight, Miles’s mouth moved faster than his brain.
“Felicity!”
“…”
Hearing his voice, Felicity paused and glanced his way.
Calvin was even more curious, his eyes scanning Miles back and forth before he whispered, “Who’s that?”
“My brother.”
Caught in the act, it would be awkward not to acknowledge him and just walk away.
Reluctantly, Felicity shuffled over, plastering on a fake smile, “Langston, what a coincidence.”
“Your friend?” Miles scanned Calvin briefly before turning back to her. “You booked him a room through Trust-E Investments?”
“Yeah.” Felicity nodded, keeping it short to avoid any further conversation and hoping to make a quick escape with Calvin.
But Calvin was a bundle of warmth!
“Hey, I’m Calvin, Felicity’s friend!” he said, flashing a grin that was both eager and familiar. “Who knows, soon we might be family. I might even start calling you ‘Uncle Langston’!”
Felicity was taken aback, glaring at him, “Shut up, don’t talk nonsense!”
“All right, all right, as you say.” Calvin, holding his suitcase, stood to one side. “Don’t be fooled by the size of this bag; it’s surprisingly heavy!”
Finally finding an excuse, she quickly turned to Miles with a smile, “Langston, my friend’s luggage is heavy, so we’ll head up first. You go on with your things. We won’t keep you any longer, let’s catch up another day, bye!”
With that, Felicity turned, intending to pull Calvin away.
Unexpectedly—
Miles was one step ahead, grabbing her slender wrist!
“Hmm?”
“I have something to discuss with you today. Let him go up on his own.”
Had he not seen it, he would have remained oblivious.
But having witnessed it, Miles couldn’t just let her and Calvin leave to check into a room for… activities reserved for married couples!
“Is it important? If it’s not—”
Then she’d have to find her way back.
“You sure you want to talk about it here?”
“Yes!” She couldn’t think of any reason they couldn’t.
Miles’s lips twitched slightly, but he actually stopped.
“Alright, then let’s talk. What exactly did you slip me that night, five years ago?”
“…”
Felicity felt a rush to her head!
She never expected the “important matter” he wanted to discuss was about that night, five years ago!
Her eyes widened as she swallowed hard, pointing towards his car, “Maybe… we should talk in the car after all.”
“You said it wasn’t anything secretive.”
“I was wrong, Langston.” In her life, she had learned to be flexible.
