"Why? Just why?"
She hadn't quite worked out the reason herself yet.
"Because, I just can't tell you!" Felicity averted her gaze, her ankle twisted and running was out of the question. Not that she could outrun him anyway.
"What was last night all about then?" Miles grabbed her wrist, his demeanor almost pleading, like a husband seeking an explanation.
"Hey, what's the rush? Can't you wait for me to come up with a... umm, I mean, explain?"
"Fine, start explaining."
He was curious to see what kind of excuse Felicity could possibly invent!
They stood in the foyer, facing off as if a brawl was about to break out.
Knowing she was at a disadvantage, Felicity played the sympathy card, planning her escape for a later time.
"Ouch... my foot suddenly hurts so much! I might actually need to see a doctor!"
Miles raised an eyebrow, then unexpectedly scooped her up in a bridal carry.
The sudden lift off the ground startled her, and she instinctively clung to his neck.
"What are you doing?"
"Didn't you say your foot hurts? I'll carry you to your room and wait for the family doctor."
"Wait, no, I—" This wasn't how the script was supposed to go!
Miles carried her straight to his master bedroom and placed her on the large bed.
As she rolled to the side, she protested, "You don't need to trouble your family doctor. I'll just have my mom take me to the hospital when I get home!"
"The injury happened here, it's only right I take care of it before sending you back to Aunt Karen."
"..."
Miles stood by the bed, texting the family doctor and even had his secretary send over some food.
"Can we not talk about last night?" she wailed, sitting up as if on her deathbed, "Fine, I'll tell you the truth! I was just dazzled for a moment, thinking at my age, I had no experience in... that area, so I wanted to try. That's it."
Unable to come up with a better excuse, Felicity laid her cards on the table.
Had she known sleeping with Miles would lead to such complications, she'd have considered hiring an escort or something...
"Felicity, don't think I don't know what you're thinking! You're not seeing anyone else!"
"Do you read minds or something?" She slapped her forehead and lay back down, "Anyway, I've said my piece. I want to go home."
"I can take you home."
Suddenly, he said those words.
Felicity looked up immediately, "Really?"
"Really." He turned and pulled out a deep red marriage certificate from the wardrobe, "We'll take you home to get your certificate, and then head to the registry office."
