"Seriously, you need to get here now! My brother's bleeding like a stuck pig!"
"...I'm on my way."
Aurora Lopez ended the call, and as she looked up, she caught Craig staring at her with what seemed like surprise that she could actually tell a lie.
"It's a white lie! Otherwise, with my brother in this state, none of us could handle it."
"I didn't say anything."
"..."
...
At the hospital, the doctor cleaned up Miles Lopez's wound and wrapped it up neatly.
The cut wasn't deep, and to avoid scarring, they decided against stitches.
All the fuss sobered him up quite a bit, and he sat in the chair, letting the doctor apply antiseptic and bandage him up without a word.
Seeing his silent, brooding demeanor was driving Aurora crazy!
"Bro, you can't just sit there like that! I've called Felicity over. You need to act like you're in agony so she'll feel sorry for you!"
The way Miles was now, he hardly looked like a man who had just attempted a dramatic gesture of love.
"I don't want to deceive her."
He understood his sister's intention, but this felt too much like lying. Even if it made Felicity stay, she wouldn't be happy.
"...Can't you drop the stoic act for once? Sometimes us girls don't mind being lied to!"
After saying her piece, Aurora shot Craig a look. "That doesn't apply to you. No lying to me."
Craig gave a wry smile, seemingly resigned to nod in agreement.
"Abby, you don't need to worry about me. You and Craig go home."
"How can I go home now? Leave you here by yourself? Miles, can't you think straight for once?"
Without another word, Felicity moved closer to examine his wound.
The bleeding had stopped, the bandage faintly tinged with the yellow of antiseptic.
"Have you been drinking?"
She could smell it as soon as she got close.
"Yeah." Miles didn't look up, remaining quietly seated.
"Abby told me you tried to off yourself... I... I don't even know what to say."
Seeing him now, it was clear Abby had exaggerated to get her to come. Who tries to off themselves and ends up with a forehead injury? Headbutting a wall?
Miles's gaze lingered on her for a moment before he took off his jacket and handed it to her.
Her current outfit was too eye-catching for a hospital, the silky material accentuating her curves, her bare back exposed, inviting unsolicited attention.
He knew that pajama set well; back when they lived together, Felicity wore it often.
