"Moving back home?!" Calvin blinked, his question laced with caution. "Do you mean... what I think you mean?"
Felicity hummed in affirmation and nodded. "I went to the hospital for a check-up. Turns out, I'm infertile. The doctor said I'll never be able to have my own kids."
She delivered the news without a hint of hesitation, her words direct and unflinching.
It wasn't a bid for sympathy; on the contrary, Felicity wanted to make it clear to Calvin that he shouldn't harbor any further hopes about them.
"..."
"The Lopez family from Eldorria City, you know them. Their legacy is huge, and they've got only one son, Langston. Though Abigail and Claire are also part of the Lopez bloodline... The Lopez family legacy relies on having heirs."
Their family indeed had the means to be concerned about passing on their legacy.
"Oh..." Calvin was taken aback by her forthrightness about her condition, leaving him somewhat at a loss. "Well, not having kids isn't the worst thing."
"It's not bad at all!" Felicity took a sip of her drink, her face devoid of sorrow, though she seemed less cheerful than before. "Saves me the trouble of sharing snacks, worrying about pregnancy body changes, or unexpected pregnancies. Really, it's not so bad."
She was taking it in stride; it wasn't a death sentence, after all.
Calvin, however, found this harder to digest than if she had just broken down crying.
"Felicity, so after Langston moves back, that's it between you two?"
"Yes."
"Can you handle not contacting him again?"
Felicity chuckled and shrugged. "Back then, we split because we weren't a good match. Now... if I cling to him, I'd only be hurting him. Langston adores kids, I can tell."
Calvin frowned. "Have you considered that maybe if you tell him, he might not mind not having kids?"
Felicity chewed on the meat and grimaced. "No big plans. Maybe switch companies, try not to go back home too much."
"I meant about relationships!"
"Oh... I'll see. If I meet someone who's into being childfree, that sort of thing, then maybe."
She didn't want to declare she'd never date or marry again at this moment.
It would sound too much like a child throwing a tantrum.
"You're considering someone who's childfree?"
Felicity looked up with a smile. "Yeah! I can't have kids, and if the other person doesn't want them, isn't that perfect?"
