Felicity felt no guilt, so she simply grabbed her purse and walked back to her seat.
"Did you need me for something?"
"Who did you go out to eat with?"
Despite Miles trying his hardest to keep a lid on it, jealousy was palpable in his tone as soon as he spoke.
"A friend."
Felicity didn't want to blow the issue out of proportion, so she gave a noncommittal answer.
He stood up, his warm palm enclosing her wrist gently, "By 'friend', you mean Calvin is still in the friend zone, right?"
She furrowed her brows, "What are you talking about? You're making no sense to me."
"Did you give Calvin a 'trial month' like you gave me?"
"..."
"But Felicity, my 'trial month' isn't even over yet." Miles didn't want to hurt her, so his grip was firm but gentle, just enough to prevent her from walking away.
Felicity looked at him, "What are you trying to say?"
"I saw him passing you the fries, and you, you were just munching away so casually."
No one knew how Miles felt seeing that scene unfold.
The ease between her and Calvin... it seemed like something he could never be a part of!
Felicity blinked, finally catching on.
"You were following me?"
"Yes." He admitted straight up, "Had I known, I never would have gone."
If he hadn't seen it, it wouldn't have happened, in his mind.
Felicity had hoped to really make the most of their last month together, but she hadn't expected things to turn out this way.
This development could have paved the way for a clean break in the future, but she hadn't planned on hinting at it so soon—
Miles took several deep breaths to stabilize his emotions before speaking in a calmer tone, "Felicity, does that mean if I pass... you won't give Calvin a chance?"
"No." She was resolute, "I'd have to 'try' both to know which one is better suited for me, right?"
"..."
"Of course, there's another possibility."
"What's that?"
"That the moment your trial period is over, I immediately decide we're not a match." Felicity said this while looking directly into his eyes, as if to emphasize her sincerity, "In that case, you should just keep your promise, go back home, and stop bothering me."
Not a match.
There it was again!
"So, tell me, what can I do to make us a match? Tell me, and I'll do everything exactly as you say!"
Felicity spread her hands in exasperation, "The fact that you're asking me this shows how incompatible we are! Should I really have to spell out everything for you?"
