Aurora's wedding was fast approaching, and the preparations were in full swing.
Craig, a rugged man's man, wasn't much help in these matters. His go-to response these days was a simple, “Whatever makes you happy.”
Exhausted, Aurora flopped down in the middle of her bed one evening, too tired even to think about taking a shower.
“Why can't I have magic? Just a spell, and I'd be all clean!”
Craig raised an eyebrow and chuckled, then got up to run a bath for her.
When he came back, she was struggling to untangle a hair tie.
"Go get some sleep after your bath, and don't soak too long. I'm heading out."
"Hey! Where are you off to?"
He paused, “Back to my place.”
Where else?
“We've got our photoshoot at the beach tomorrow morning, gotta leave by seven. If you go home now, you'll barely sleep before you have to come back and pick me up!”
“Yeah, so I'll pick you up.”
Sometimes Aurora was tempted to crack open Craig's head just to see how his brain worked.
“Why don't you just stay here? It'd save us both some time in the morning.”
“No need.”
“…”
Saying more would seem too eager, and Aurora felt awkward enough as it was. “Fine, then. Go.”
Craig clicked his tongue, glancing her way. “Mad?”
“No! If you like making things hard for yourself, be my guest.”
“Aurora… you miss last time?”
That turned her cheeks scarlet, and she glared at him. “I'm asking you to stay over, not for... that!”
It was just the inconvenience she minded, nothing else!
“Yeah, sure, I believe you.”
Ever since they'd become intimate, Craig seemed more at ease, even cracking the occasional joke.
It was as if that moment had settled his insecurities about their relationship, steadying the ship with a firm hand.
Aurora threw a pillow at him, which Craig caught easily.
Before anyone could speak, her phone rang.
But he hadn’t taken over the company, nor had he gone to Bay Residence or his own apartment.
He had bought the bridal shop where he and Felicity had tried on wedding dresses. Now, he sat inside, drinking alone, can after can, bottle after bottle.
If only time could rewind to the day they tried on those wedding dresses.
He’d gladly give anything, even his life, to not leave her side for even a moment.
He’d exhaust every beautiful word he knew to describe her, hold her hand, and admire her as she tried on each dress, looking every bit the bride.
But alas…
You can’t turn back time.
“It’s over… Everything’s gone…”
Miles drained the last of his bottle and neatly placed it aside.
Reaching for another, he realized they were all empty.
By the time Aurora found him, Miles was unconscious on the floor, a victim of alcohol poisoning.
“Bro! Please, don’t scare me, wake up!”
“Quick, Craig, call an ambulance!”
