Felicity was at her wit's end. She found herself yearning for either Calvin's presence or the kind of laid-back attitude his mom always seemed to have. The kind where you listen if you want to, and if not, you just nod along without much care.

"That's all I needed to know."

Calvin was sure of it—if Miles were to be completely ruled out of the competition, the victory would be his, no doubt about it.

Miles was his usual self, or so it seemed to those around him. Meetings, data analysis, coding, and then home. To the casual observer, he hadn't changed a bit since a year ago. But those close to him could tell something was off. Miles wasn't much of a talker before, sure, but he used to crack a smile at the little joys in life.

Now, it seemed like nothing could make him truly happy anymore.

Time flew, and several months passed in the blink of an eye. This weekend happened to be Jeffrey Turner's birthday.
