Craig had no silver spoon, no family crest to boast of.
No matter how hard he tried, reaching the heights of the Lopez Corporation seemed like a fairy tale dream!
But all of this...
Craig was well aware before they even tied the knot!
“You’ve always felt deep down, haven’t you, that Craig and the Lopez family are worlds apart?”
Aurora shot back, “I haven’t!”
“Haven’t you? Then why didn’t you tell Craig from the get-go that you’re the heiress to the Lopez dynasty?”
“...”
“Your secrecy, isn’t it because you feared Craig would find out?” Magnolia chuckled, “Look at me, from day one, Craig knew exactly who I am, who my parents are, what our family business is about! I’ve had nothing to hide! Because Craig and I, we’re cut from the same cloth.”
Aurora didn’t want to hear any of this.
She and Craig were married now, with a baby on the way, she wasn’t about to start a row over a few snide comments from Magnolia.
She had let go of so many moments worth fighting for in the past.
Now, even less so!
Besides...
Magnolia was wrong.
In their relationship, it seemed like Aurora was the one with the upper hand, but in reality, it had always been Craig.
She dared not stir trouble, always cautious about her words and actions.
Fearing she might bruise Craig’s pride!
Worried that a single displeasure might lead him to call it quits.
...
Craig had no idea what concoction he had drunk.
He only came to as the night darkened, his eyes unfocused as he stared at the master bedroom’s ceiling.
Sitting up, he felt a headache throbbing and rubbed his temples.
After a while, Craig got out of bed.
Both fell silent for a moment.
Craig then said, “Walter’s been good to me back in the day, inviting me for a meal. If I said no, it’d look like I’ve forgotten where I came from now that I’ve climbed a bit higher.”
It was a tough spot.
Climbing from the bottom, you can’t just vanish at the first sign of success.
Aurora understood what Craig meant.
But...
“Why do you think, marrying me is like climbing higher?”
“...”
“Craig, even my dad hasn’t given you any money, just a few words of advice! Mr. Turner’s business referrals, they would’ve gone to anyone in his place, might as well keep it in the family!” She didn’t like the phrase 'climbing higher.'
It felt just like Magnolia said, as if she and Craig were from different worlds.
“Yeah, I get it.”
“You don’t get it.” Aurora’s voice was soft, her long lashes casting shadows, “Craig, sometimes I wonder why I feel so insecure with you.”
