Aurora had absolutely zero interest in seeing Craig.
Her ex? She wished he’d just disappear from her life for good.
“That’s not necessary. I’ll figure something out,” she said, keeping her voice cool.
Craig must have picked up on the fact that she was dodging him, because he replied, “Did you really think I’d show up myself? Come on, Aurora, I’m swamped. I’ll send one of my guys to help you. You know how these delivery trucks are—they’re always breaking down, so I’ve got my own repair crew. It’s just a flat tire. I’ll have someone take care of it.”
…Well, he had a point.
Aurora mentally kicked herself. Of course Craig didn’t have time for this. He was the CEO now—busy with God knows what, probably eating steak dinners with clients and making million-dollar deals. Why would he personally come change her tire?
“I’m only helping because I want you to finish up work sooner and get home to Elijah. He misses you,” Craig added, his tone softening a little.
Aurora pressed her lips together. At the mention of their son, her resolve wavered. “Fine. Send your guy over. I’ll pay him the usual rate.”
“Deal. Just shoot me your location.”
“Okay.”
She hung up, only to see a WhatsApp friend request pop up—from Craig, of course. Same old profile pic, same old username. He hadn’t changed a thing.
Aurora didn’t accept it. Instead, she just texted him her location.
A minute later, her phone buzzed again—it was Craig calling. “The way you sent your location isn’t accurate enough. My guy won’t be able to find you right away. You’re wasting time.”
“It’s accurate enough,” she insisted.
“Aurora, do you actually want your car fixed, or not?” His voice had a definite edge now.
“…I get it.” Reluctantly, she accepted his friend request and resent her location through WhatsApp.
[That’s none of your business.]
[Anyone who’s after you could end up being my son’s stepdad. I think it is my business.]
…Craig had changed.
He never used to talk like this.
[Craig, my personal life isn’t your concern.]
After that, Craig went silent.
Aurora tossed her phone onto the passenger seat. Maybe it was the weather, or maybe it was just everything piling up, but she was starting to feel seriously restless—and she couldn’t even put her finger on why.
