While waiting for her results, Dorothy made a call to her mom.
She had sent her a message earlier that went unanswered.
And this call, too, went unanswered.
A feeling of unease started to creep into Dorothy's heart, but she wasn't overly worried.
After all, it was the weekend, and her mom was supposed to be doing rehab, so not having her cell phone on her was totally normal.
Once Dorothy finished her tests, she figured she'd go to the ward to check on her mom.
"Dorothy, please proceed to examination room 3."
Upon hearing this, she quickly pocketed her phone and headed in that direction.
It was the same doctor. He was looking over the urine and blood test results she had handed in with a frown creasing his forehead.
"Good thing you came in for a check-up. You're pregnant."
Huh?
Dorothy was speechless.
When the words "you're pregnant" came out of the doctor's mouth, Dorothy's mind went completely blank.
"According to your blood test, the baby seems to be developing normally." The doctor, not looking up from her medical record, continued, "Do you want it?"
Before he could get a response, he noticed the stunned look on Dorothy's face.
Perhaps he was used to seeing all kinds of patients, so he calmly repeated, "Do you want this baby? Or maybe you should discuss it with your partner first."
Dorothy finally snapped back to reality. Inexplicably, her lips had become bone dry. "Am I... am I really pregnant?"
"Based on your HCG levels, you're probably six or seven weeks along. Didn't you notice that your period was late?"
"I thought it was just stress from work."
This would certainly trigger her mother's fears.
She must have sat there for a good ten minutes before she managed to calm down. She was about to pull out her phone to talk to Everett when she saw several missed calls from her mom's doctor.
Dorothy immediately called back as her heart jumped into her throat.
"Why weren't you answering your phone?! Your mom is in the emergency room again. Come quick!"
Before Dorothy could even check if she had hung up, she was already sprinting towards the ward.
Sure enough, the red light in front of the emergency room was lit up again.
"Doctor, wasn't my mom's condition stable? Her last surgery was successful!"
"It's her heart disease. She had another shock." The doctor handed her a critical condition notice.
"Sign this first; we'll do our best to save her."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone?
