But when he finally managed to open his eyes, there was nothing.
A big, fat nothing.
All that was left was a faintly familiar scent lingering in the air.
Jeffrey's face fell, and a frown formed on his brow. "She didn't come! She doesn't care if you live or die!"
"I know she was here."
"Were you not unconscious just now?" Jeffrey blurted out before realizing he was being duped, and he huffed in annoyance. "Why are you so keen on knowing that? Even if she did come, she didn't stay! She could've killed you, but thankfully God has a plan."
May that heartless woman be barren.
Of course, he didn't voice that last thought out loud.
Jeffrey could already foresee that if Everett heard about this, he would definitely think that Dorothy's insistence on divorce was due to this. Just like Jeffrey himself had thought earlier.
Anyway, they were destined to part ways. It didn't matter what the real reason was, as long as everyone got back on track.
He sneaked a glance at Everett's expression and wisely kept his mouth shut.
Suddenly, Everett said, "Discharge me."
"What? You can barely walk straight. The doctor said you're at risk of alcohol poisoning and need to stay at the hospital for at least three days."
"I want out." Everett repeated his request.
Jeffrey was frustrated. "Are you joking with your own life? Wake up, will you? Are you planning to risk your life for a woman?"
Dorothy was just a bit prettier than most and had a decent figure. But there were definitely women among those swarming around him who were more beautiful, more outstanding, and of higher social status.
“If you’re not going to do it, I’ll do it myself.”
With that, Everett tried to sit up.
Jeffrey hurried over to support him. “What are you trying to do? I’ve handed over all of the company's matters to Kevin. He can come to the hospital for any urgent matters. Don't push your body too hard."
"I have an appointment with a wedding planner. I have to go there myself."
"A wedding?" Jeffrey was stunned. "Whose wedding?"
"Mine and Dorothy's." Everett tugged at his dry, cracked lips. "The sooner it happens, the sooner I can let her be free."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
