Chapter 234
Leopold casually slipped his arm around Evelyn’s shoulders. An unexpected wave of emotion washed over Evelyn. This was the first time they had such intimate contact.
“Auntie, your timing is impeccable. I brought Evelyn here today to announce our engagement. I’ve discussed it with my mother and we’re planning to have the engagement ceremony after Christmas.” His voice was deep and clear.
Evelyn’s heart gave a leap of joy so intense that she thought it might burst out of her chest.
Was Leo really proposing to her? He hadn’t mentioned anything about this before. The news came so suddenly that she was blissfully unprepared!
“Leo!” She looked at him, her eyes filled with affection, her face flushed with shy excitement.
Elara was seething with anger. While her daughter was heartbroken at home, he was eagerly planning to marry Evelyn. Was he trying to push her daughter over the edge?
“According to the Stirling family tradition, you should wait three years after mourning your father before marrying!”
“If Evelyn gets pregnant, we won’t have to wait.” Leopold’s hand drifted to Evelyn’s lower abdomen, his lips curling into a cunning smirk. “Who knows, maybe she’s already carrying our child.”
Evelyn was so excited she felt faint. Was Leo ready for them to start a family? Just the thought of spending the night with him made every cell in her body scream with exhilaration.
Elara felt a sharp pang in her heart. “Are you fully recovered?”
Leopold picked up a cherry and popped it into Evelyn’s mouth. “Perhaps my recovery sped up because my mood improved ever since Evelyn came back.”
Elara’s shoulders trembled. First, it was Megan, now Evelyn. Were the Alcott women really so enchanting that they could bewitch him into disregarding everything else?
At this point, she had forgotten all about Aurelia. As long as Leopold was healthy, her children meant nothing for the Stirling family and had no chance to take over the Stirling Group anymore.
“Do you really feel nothing for Elowen?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll still treat Elowen as my cousin.” Leopold’s voice was calm but cold.
At this moment, one of his uncles stood up from the couch, trying to mediate the situation. He patted Elara’s shoulder, “Elara, it’s no use forcing things. Go back and talk to Elowen. Find her another suitable
match.”
Jessica nodded, “Elowen is smart and beautiful. There will be plenty of suitors lining up to marry her. If you don’t want her to leave you after her marriage, you could encourage a potential son–in–law to come live in our family home. The inheritance her grandfather left her is quite hefty, and it belongs to her, no matter whom she marries.”
Elara took a deep breath, contemplating. Indeed, no amount of inheritance could rival the title and prestige that came with becoming Mrs. Stirling.
“Jessica, I should go back and take care of Elowen.” Her gaze swept over Evelyn, filled with ominous intent.
Evelyn was not the least bit frightened. The title of Mrs. Stirling was hers for the taking.
After a few days of rest, Aurelia returned to work.
Security was tightened on the floor where the Design Department was located, with Yuna leading a team of security guards on daily patrols.
