Chapter 254
“I heard that Malta is a country where you can not divorce so easily,” Jelena remarked a hint of envy in her
tone.
“I always thought Arnold was living a carefree life, never to marry. But he’s been attracted by Aurelia,” Fredric said, raising a thumbs–up to Aurelia across the table.
Aurelia felt nervous, despite the distance between them. She could feel an icy aura emanating from across the table, chilling and intimidating.
Leopold’s icy stare held a hint of menace, his face expressionless as if he wore a mask, hiding all emotion behind it. It felt as if a venomous snake had slithered into his heart, coiling and ready to strike at any
moment.
His hand, hidden under the table, clenched into a fist, the knuckles turning a ghastly pale. He picked up his cocktail, sipping it to ease his mind.
Evelyn turned her gaze to him, longing in her eyes. She wished she could marry him as soon as possible.
Fredric bit into an apple and said, “It would be perfect if Arnold was here.”
Aurelia brushed a stray hair from her face, a hint of awkwardness creeping in. Everyone was paired up, leaving her feeling like a third wheel.
But the most awkward part was the fact that she was Leopold’s secret wife, metaphorically wearing the hat of infidelity.
“Arno should be back by next week,” she said nonchalantly, picking up a plate of cookies and nibbling on
one.
Leopold’s eyes narrowed slightly, watching her, “So you’re looking forward to his return?”
His tone was casual as if it were a passing comment, but the underlying anger was detectable only to
Aurelia.
She chose to ignore it, maintaining her calm.
After a bite of her lobster tart, she flashed a small smirk, “Indeed, especially when I see Mr. Leopold and Ms. Evelyn looking so sweet together, it makes me miss Arno even more.”
She rubbed her slightly protruding belly, her tone and action both a little provocative.
Leopold didn’t say anything but looked at her in anger.
“A woman should be loyal once she’s married, never cheating,” he warned.
She knew what he was implying. A woman should be loyal while a man could be a playboy. How ridiculous!
She calmly sipped her juice, looking straight at him, “Don’t worry, Mr. Leopold. Other than Arno, there’s no one else for me.”
Each word was like a bullet, piercing through Leopold’s defenses, hitting him where it hurt most.
He was upset just like the snake in his heart gnawing at him.
For a moment, he wanted to drag this woman out and punish her, to stop her from even thinking of such. things.
But he held back, grabbing his glass and downing the drink.
“I need to use the restroom,” he said, needing to cool down before he lost control.
