Chapter 386
“Sadly, the woman I despise the most is you.” Elvis retorted, leaving without a beat.
Fuming, Melissa shouted after him, “Elvis, you’ll regret this! One day, I’ll have you kneeling at my feet begging for mercy.”
Aurelia, shaking her head, understood that Melissa needed a yes–man, someone who would tolerate and pamper her. She was foolish to expect Elvis, the CEO of Ethereal Gems and the heir to the Cooper family, to treat her like a princess. Elvis could have any woman he wanted, so why would he choose a shrew?
Melissa, with a sinister look in her eye, turned to Aurelia, “Aurelia, how dare you flirt with Elvis behind Leopold’s back. You’re a flirtatious harlot. I’ll make sure Leopold knows about this, and you’ll be out on the streets.” With that, she stormed off.
Aurelia was speechless at the absurd accusation.
Beverley pulled a face, “Melissa’s just mad because of Elvis. Don’t worry, Aurelia, I’ll vouch for you.”
Aurelia wasn’t worried. Leopold was too intelligent to believe such a ridiculous lie.
She sipped her ice–cold cocktail and scanned the party.
In a dark corner of the grand hall, a figure in red appeared. Her long hair cascaded down, covering half her face. One visible eye was fixed on Aurelia.
Aurelia recognized her at once. It was Megan. She felt a shiver run down her spine.
She shot up from the couch, “She’s here!”
Beverley followed her gaze, her eyes widened in shock.
It was Megan. Beverley too had caught sight of her before she quickly disappeared into the obscurity of the darkness
Beverley yelled, “After her!”
They rushed to the corner, but Megan had vanished, leaving only the cold, dark air behind.
Nearby was a corridor with stairs leading outside.
“Do you think she ran out?” Beverley wondered.
Aurelia nodded, “Possibly. Let’s check.”
Before they could take a step, a hand landed on Aurelia’s shoulder, “What are you two up to?”
Leopold, handsome as always, was looking at them. Aurelia was momentarily taken aback, “I thought you were out of town?”
“I said I’d be back tonight.” He flashed a charming grin. Nights without Aurelia by his side were sleepless
Aurelia shrugged. Now that he was here, there was no point in hiding the truth.
“We just saw Megan. She might have run out through the corridor.”
Leopold stiffened, “Follow me. Don’t wander off.”
Like a whirlwind, he swept past them, with Aurelia and Beverley close on his heels.
Reaching the stairwell, Leopold spotted a flash of red heading toward the rooftop.
He raced up the stairs, determined to catch her and uncover the truth.
The rooftop was dark and eerily quiet. They could almost hear each other’s heartbeats.
