Chapter 389
News of Megan’s return quickly spread throughout the social elite, but for several consecutive days, Leopold hadn’t visited her at the Alcott family.
Leopold had just finished a meeting when he received a call from Melissa, inviting him for afternoon tea. His gut warned him of her -últerior motives.
“I’m busy today, so I don’t have time.” Leopold refused.
“I have something important to discuss with you.
“What’s up?”
“It’s about Megan. Don’t you want to know why she disappeared and what has happened in these six years?”
“What did she tell you?”
“She discovered a huge secret. You need to come here, and it’s too complicated to discuss over the phone.”
Leopold leaned back in his office chair, his gaze slightly deepening. After a moment of hesitation, he stood up, grabbed his coat, and walked out
At the Victoria Café.
As he walked into the private room, he saw Melissa and Megan sitting side by side.
“Leopold!” Megan’s eyes sparkled tenderly as she saw him. She had been waiting eagerly for him to visit her every day, but he never showed up.
She had no choice but to ask Melissa for help and arrange a meeting.
Leopold sat on the sofa across from them and asked straightforwardly. “Melissa said you’ve discovered a secret. What secret?”
His tone was indifferent, as if she were a stranger. Waves of disappointment surged in her heart.
Melissa quickly got him a cup of coffee, “Leopold, you and Megan have finally reunited after a long time. Surely, there’s something else you want to talk about?”
Leopold had his usual icy demeanor, “We’re just friends, no need for reminiscing. I’m not here for coffee. I’m busy.”
Melissa was taken aback, “Just friends? Megan was your fiancee. You proposed to her in front of our father and everyone in our circles knew about it. Have you forgotten?”
On hearing it, Leopold gave her a faint look.
Back then, Megan had been hurt because of him, so he was indeed more gentle with her than with other women, but he had always seen her as just a friend. As for the proposal, it was all a show, with Megan taking the initiative to play the role of his fiance, warding off unwanted marriage talks.
“Whether it was in the past or now, Megan and I are just friends. I hope you remember that. His tone was somewhat harsh.
Melissa wanted to say more, but her words became lodged in her throat. She stood up, letting them have some privacy.
“I’m going to the restroom.” Melissa left after saying so.
Megan took a sip of her drink, her gaze filled with affection as she looked at Leopold. After six years, he was even more handsome, more charming, and colder than ever.
If the incident hadn’t happened back then, she would have definitely married him and become his wife. How could she have let someone else take her place?
“Leopold, these past few days, I’ve been thinking about the times we had together. Those were really good times.”
