Chapter 453 

They stepped onto the Ferris wheel. 

Aurelia was acrophobic. Her knees trembled and she dared not look down. 

Leopold, ever so perceptive, pulled her into his arms, “Does this make you feel any better?” The warmth of his embrace and his strong physique offered enough comfort. But Aurelia wanted to push him away because this embrace belonged to another woman now, not her. 

As she slightly moved, the cabin swayed a bit which frightened her to the point where she held onto his jacket unconsciously. 

Leopold’s long fingers stroked her back, his voice as soft as a gentle evening breeze. 

“I’m here, so you have nothing to fear.” 

But his words were like a knife in her heart, causing a dull ache. He was no longer by her side, and he had left her, abandoned her. 

Even though he said he would return, she was afraid to believe him, fearing he was deceiving her, making a fool out of her. 

When she truly loved someone, she would become insecure, lose her ability to think rationally, unable to analyze situations calmly. Especially after getting hurt, she would retreat, too scared to open her heart. 

Aurelia was like this. She wanted to believe him but was scared to get hurt again. 

She wasn’t that strong, she was human, not an invincible fortress. 

During the day, she hid her pain behind a smile, but at night, she would silently surrender to her tears. 

Her wound ran deep, so deep that it seemed the prospect of it ever healing was bleak. 

If he deceived her again and betrayed her trust, she would break down, even die. 

She couldn’t give him the chance to push her into the abyss. 

So, until he was divorced, she wouldn’t believe his words and didn’t want to get too close to him, it was the best way to protect herself. 

William glanced at the two, pulling a funny face, “Uncle Leopold, why are you hugging my mommy?” 

Leopold was slightly awkward, but didn’t let go. This family hug was not inappropriate. 

“Your mom is afraid of heights, so I’m protecting her. That’s what men should do, protect

their women.” 

William blinked, “Then let me do it. I can protect Mommy.” 

Seeing him about to stand, Aurelia quickly stopped him, “Don’t move and sit still. We’re in the air. It’s dangerous.” 

William stuck out his tongue, “I was just joking with Uncle Leopold.” 

Leopold was speechless 

Clever boy, always thinking ahead. 

Compared to William’s mischief, Kane was rather quiet, not wanting to disturb his parents. If they could always be this close, they would surely reconcile eventually. 

After the Ferris wheel, they enjoyed a myriad of other fun–filled activities. 

The children had a great time that day, and so did Aurelia. 

She truly wanted to have a good life with Leopold. She even planned to reveal William’s identity at their wedding, so the four of them could truly be a family.
