Chapter 81
Aurelia’s face turned pale. The email had been sent, not only to the big boss, but to the entire company.
The whole thing was a trap set by Evelyn.
She had fallen right into it!
If she didn’t handle this properly, she would not only be disciplined, but also risk dragging the entire marketing department down with her. They would avoid her like a plague, and who would be there to help. her then?
As she entered the conference room, all eyes were on her.
Struggling to maintain her composure, she focused on the report on the table.
Leopold was the last to enter.
He’d seen how bold his lawfully wedded wife could be. Nothing she did surprised him anymore.
The deputy director coughed and turned his gaze to Aurelia, “Manager Aurelia, what’s this about the email Emma sent today?”
Evelyn flashed a fake smile, “Manager Aurelia invited the marketing team for dinner. She probably wanted to build a stronger bond within the department. Why didn’t she invite us too? After all, we’re all in the same department, and even if there’s competition, we need to stick together, right?”
Her words seemed helpful but were in fact putting Aurelia in a corner, leaving her no room to use team bonding as an excuse.
The deputy director put on a serious face, “Aurelia, competition must be fair. You can’t do tricks behind the -scenes. That’s not fair.” He then turned to Mr. Harry, “You’re a long–time employee here. Aurelia lacks
experience, and you should correct her. How could you make such a principle–related mistake with her?”
As he spoke, Aurelia snuck a glance at Leopold.
He was expressionless, like a mask carved from ice, inscrutable. Was he considering how to punish her?
Once the deputy director finished speaking, she chuckled, “Oh boy, everyone in the department has been so tense lately. The smallest ripple feels like a tsunami.”
She stood up, “Let me clarify. Yesterday was Lily’s birthday. She turned 27, a proper spinster, Over the years, Lily hasn’t dated much, mostly because she’s been interested in Mr. Jack from the marketing department. I’ve asked around, and Mr. Jack is single, and he also has feelings for Lily. It’s just that they were both shy so that they haven’t tole each other about their feelings.”
She paused and smiled slightly. “To surprise Lily on her birthday, I asked Mr. Harry to bring Mr. Jack to Lily’s birthday party, and to be the love witnesses, I only planned to invite Mr. Harry and Mr. Jack. But Darcy sent me a private message on WhatsApp, asking if he could bring Ms. Wendy. Turns out he has a secret crush on her. I realized there are quite a few single employees in the company, so I asked Mr. Harry to invite a few more single colleagues. We might as well play matchmaker.”
She finished, pulling out her phone, “Yesterday, Lily confessed her feelings to Mr. Jack and gave him 999 roses, which I had prepared for her. In this day and age, girls should also be bold in expressing our love, and not just wait for the guys to make a move. I took a lot of videos, would you like to have a look?”
Mr. Harry let out a sigh, “I didn’t expect such a small matter could disturb the whole company. Seems like Aurelia and I ended up doing more harm than good with our good intentions.”
