Upon hearing this, Lysander’s tears grew more intense. She grasped his hand tightly, her voice choked with emotion. “If the Central Hospital can’t handle it, we can look for treatment overseas. You don’t need to worry about the money. Dad. I’ve secured my role at the company. Whatever the cost, I’m prepared to save you!”
Her resolve was clear; she was prepared to sacrifice her own career aspirations and remain at the company forever it meant keeping her father alive. As she saw hesitation flicker across Maverick’s face, she implored him with a trembling voice, “Dad, you haven’t seen me settle down yet. How can you be at peace with leaving without witnessing that?”
Maverick responded by gently patting her hand, his voice a mixture of comfort and sadness, “I may not be fortunate enough to see that day, but remember, even if one day I have to leave, I’ll still be watching over you from above.”
Overcome by her emotions, Lysander leaned into his shoulder, her cries filling the silent forest around them.
Josiah, witnessing this heart–wrenching scene, felt a deep sorrow. Despite knowing the odds were against them, he couldn’t help but interject with a glimmer of hope, “Mr. Maverick, just give us the nod. I’ve already been in touch with some of the best lung cancer specialists. If you agree, we could be on our way as early as tomorrow morning.”
He had the means to arrange a private jet to take them directly to a top–tier medical facility, though he opted to keep quiet about the overseas doctors‘ cautious optimism regarding Maverick’s advanced condition.
These experts had already admitted that while they could attempt to manage his pain, they could not halt the disease’s progression. Maverick needed a miracle, and miracles, by their very nature, were unpredictable and rare.
However, Maverick gently declined the offer, “Thank you for your kindness, but let’s not complicate things. If I had the strength to travel and stay abroad, I’d rather spend that time at home with my family. And frankly, I’m not one for foreign food like hamburgers and steaks. I’m more comfortable here.”
He had long accepted his fate, reflecting on his life with a sense of fulfillment rather than regret, “When I first received the diagnosis, it shocked me, of course. But as I thought about my life, I realized I’ve had a good run. I married the woman I loved and was blessed with wonderful daughters. What more could I ask
for?”
He comforted Lysander, patting her shoulder gently, reminiscent of how he used to carry her home when she was a child, too tired to walk after a long day.
From a young age, Lysander had always been sensitive and perceptive. Sensing her father’s firm resolution and knowing that arguing would be futile, Lysander fought to compose herself, striving not to burden him further with her fears and grief.
Seeing her regain some composure, Maverick reassured her with a smile, “That’s my strong girl. Remember, there’s no obstacle too great that we can’t overcome together.”
With determination renewed, yet still heavy–hearted, Lysander inquired softly, “Dad, is there anything else you’d like to do? I’m ready to put my work aside and spend this time with you and Mom, whatever you
need.”

“There’s no need for that. Continue with your life as usual. If you hover around too much, it’ll just raise suspicions with your mother and sister. The last thing I want is to become a burden or to disrupt your
career.”
Lysander, ever honest but now facing a situation that demanded subtlety, improvised, “It won’t impact my work. If necessary. I’ll just manage things from home and go into the office only for emergencies.”
Maverick nodded, partly reassured, then shared his thoughts, “If I can see you well–settled and know you’re in good hands, I’ll have no regrets. It’s important to me that the time I have left isn’t spent in a hospital. Your mother has sacrificed a lot; ensuring her comfort is my top priority now.”
Tears threatened to spill from Lysander’s eyes again as she listened to her father. “Please don’t talk like that. Mom has always said that marrying you was her greatest happiness.”
Maverick’s thoughts turned tenderly to Laura, his voice softening. “Your mother is an incredible woman. We’ve been through so much together. I’d hoped to build a new house to bring her joy in her later years, but it seems I won’t see that day. Looking ahead, you’ll need to take up the mantle at home.”
Regret tinged his words as he continued, “Lysa, I’m sorry. I wish I could continue to shoulder these responsibilities, but it looks like they’ll be yours now.”
Lysander had never viewed the care of the family as a task that was Maverick’s alone to bear. She tried to speak up, to offer reassurance, but her voice was raspy and weak from crying too much. When she opened ger mouth to speak, she was overcome by emotion, her voice catching in her throat.
Josiah, who had been quietly observing from the sidelines throughout the heartfelt father–daughter exchange, chose this moment to assert his commitment. “Mr. Maverick, I’ve always been a man of my word. Should the day come, rest assured, I will take utmost care of Lysander’s family. Her family is my family too.”
Lysander, attempting to regain some semblance of composure, quickly interjected, “Dad, why are you talking as if the weight of everything rests solely on your shoulders? As the eldest daughter, it’s my role to support this family too. You’ve done so much for us already… Please, trust in me. I am fully capable of handling it.”
As she spoke, she dabbed at her tear–stained cheeks, the redness around her eyes a stark testament to the depth of her earlier despair.
Maverick responded, softly caressing her cheek, a gesture filled with tenderness. “How could I ever doubt you, my child? My concern isn’t a question of your capability; it’s just that I worry about the burden being too much for you, especially when I’m gone.”
Just then, the silence was pierced by the sound of snapping twigs from behind him. Maverick spun around, his expression alarmed as he caught sight of Michelle standing there with a confused and startled look on her face.
Michelle, her voice tinged with confusion and disbelief, managed to stammer, “Dad, Lysa… what are you talking about? I don’t understand.
The colors drained from Maverick’s face as he grasped the gravity of what Michelle might have overheard, he asked with a tremulous voice, “Mich? Did you hear everything?”
Both Lysander and Josiah instinctively looked at Michelle, recognizing the difficulty she had in processing the conversation. Michelle’s hand dropped from her mouth as she rushed over, her voice filled with urgency, “Lysa, please tell me Dad didn’t mean what he just said. What does he mean by ‘when he’s gone?

Update pls~...
Why no update ???...
Chapters 692 693 ans 694 are impossible to read. Not sure if there was an issue with translation.but the words do not make sense..impossible to follow story line...
I cant get over the fact that the writer is trying to show as if the male lead has committed a grave sin. First he didnt know she was pregnant because she never told him. Second right from the start she never communicated anything. She was unbothered even during her marriage. I am not saying the male lead is great but atleast he seems like a human with emotions unlike her. And there is no context for why she is so emotionless....
The female lead is not charming but an unbothered b word, there is a very big difference. There is no point of extending this story at all because even if you write 1000+ chapters at 1001 the male lead would still be doing everything for her and she wouldnt bat an eye even if someone killed him. I mean honestly either the start should have been written better where we do understand that she was deeply affected because of her divorce or just STOPPPPP. Even for fiction it is annoying....
