Chapter 707 Escape Plan
The two police officers appeared unfamiliar and were not the ones Lysander had seen by the lake before, yet they recognized Lysander immediately upon seeing her.
“You’re Ms. Lysander Thorne, right?”
“Correct.”
“Here’s the thing. There have been some new developments in the case of the body found in the lake a while back. We went to the Guerra family’s old house, but you weren’t there. We were told you had come here. Our investigation has uncovered some new information, and we need you to come to the station to provide a statement. Would you mind accompanying us to the police station?”
The tone of the police officer was quite polite.
Lysander was torn between Josiah, who had left with Tiffany, and abandoning the case at hand. All she could think of was to resolve the issue as quickly and methodically as possible. Glancing at the police car parked outside, she agreed without a second thought, “All right, I’ll go with you.”
The night was thick, and the incessant alternating red and blue lights atop the patrol car inexplicably stirred a sense of unease and confusion.
Nilou hastily led Rhizone to chase after Lysander. “Dr. Thorne, let us go with you. At the time of the incident, Rhizone and I were at the scene. We might be able to assist. Besides, we’ve never ridden in a police car before.”
It was common for children to show interest in police cars, but no one realized that it was actually just an excuse she had come up with on the spot.
After giving it some thought, Lysander agreed. “All right, let’s go together then.”
She was just about to take the hands of the siblings when one of the officers firmly refused, saying, “No, they can’t come along.”
His colleague subtly nudged him in the ribs, a gesture so slight yet it didn’t escape Lysander’s peripheral vision.
The figure of the speaking police officer seemed vaguely familiar, as if Lysander
had seen him somewhere before but where exactly was it

For a moment, Lysander couldn’t remember.
Noticing the tension in the atmosphere, the other police officer attempted to mediate. “Here’s the thing, Ms. Thorne. These two kids are too young. Their testimonies won’t be credible, so taking them along won’t do any good. It’s probably best to leave them at home.”
Foldhed
As he spoke, he bent down, intending to pat Rhizone and Nilou on their heads. However, they skillfully dodged his gesture, leaving his hand awkwardly hanging in mid–air.
Rhizone explained earnestly, “Officer, have you forgotten? I was the one who swam to the bottom of the lake and discovered the remains. I’m a very good swimmer, and no one else is more qualified to explain the situation that day.”
In response, the police officer seemed completely taken aback, as if he had no recollection of the event at all.
The police officer who initially turned the siblings away voiced his impatience, “Ms. Thorne, we’re pressed for time. Could you please stop hesitating? This is a homicide case, so bringing the children along will only cause trouble.”
They both skillfully avoided discussing the matter that Rhizone had brought up, instead focusing their efforts on urging Lysander to leave.
Lysander quietly observed them, noting that both of them had full police insignial on their uniforms, and the parked pólice car outside looked quite authentic.
After a moment of contemplation, she said, “Could you all please wait a bit longer. for me? I need to make sure my children at home are settled before I leave.”
As she spoke, she gently took hold of Nilou and Rhizone’s hands, one in each of hers. Once they crossed the threshold, she immediately began to whisper instructions to them.
“Something seems off about these two officers, but I’m not sure if I’m overthinking things. That’s why I’m entrusting Grandma Laura and Aurora to you two for now. Here’s the phone number of the Guerra family’s driver. Once I leave, contact him immediately and head back to the Guerra family’s old house together.”
Lysander dared not delay for too long. She quickly scribbled down a series of numbers, then turned to Laura, who was standing by the baby stroller, and said hastily, “Mom, Nilou and Rhizone are reliable kids. If they ask you to go with.

them, just go.”
To put it simply, she really didn’t have the time to explain.
Laura trusted her daughter and solemnly agreed to her request.
After ensuring the well–being of those important to her, Lysander was able to accompany the two slightly suspicious police officers without any lingering worries. She chose to sit in the back seat of the police car.

In case of danger, at the very least, she had the option to escape by jumping out of the car.
Only after the police officers had escorted Lysander away did they finally show
TWO signs of relaxing. The one in the passenger seat even pulled out his phone, his fingers swiftly dancing across the screen as he typed away.
The Thorne residence was located on the outskirts of the city, so it wasn’t particularly remote. Even if one really wanted to go further into the mountain to the village, one would still have to pass through a residential area.
Seizing the opportunity, Lysander initiated a conversation with the two police officers.
“Officers, you mentioned earlier that there’s been a development in the case. Have you confirmed the identity of the deceased? When I found out about the remains in the lake, I was genuinely terrified/After all, just the morning before yesterday, we were rowing in that very lake.”
She indeed arrived near the lake in the morning, but it wasn’t until the afternoon. that she went boating with Josiah.
If these two were truly police officers working on the case, there was no way they wouldn’t have known this. However, the response to Lysander was, “Why are you asking so many questions? I’ll tell you when we get there.”
The sudden shift in attitude practically confirmed the suspicion Lysander harbored.
Lysander calculated the time. By now, Laura and the children should have already met up with the driver from the Guerra family.
And so, she could fully focus on making a plan to extricate herself.

“There isn’t anyone else in the car; would it hurt to reveal a bit in advance? When I was in the village, I never heard of anyone missing. I’m extremely curious about the identity of the deceased.”
“It’s simply not possible. That’s just the rules,” he stated firmly.
“All right, I won’t ask about that anymore. In the lake…”
Lysander pretended to be actively providing clues related to the lake, striking up a casual conversation with these two fake cops.

Update pls~...
Why no update ???...
Chapters 692 693 ans 694 are impossible to read. Not sure if there was an issue with translation.but the words do not make sense..impossible to follow story line...
I cant get over the fact that the writer is trying to show as if the male lead has committed a grave sin. First he didnt know she was pregnant because she never told him. Second right from the start she never communicated anything. She was unbothered even during her marriage. I am not saying the male lead is great but atleast he seems like a human with emotions unlike her. And there is no context for why she is so emotionless....
The female lead is not charming but an unbothered b word, there is a very big difference. There is no point of extending this story at all because even if you write 1000+ chapters at 1001 the male lead would still be doing everything for her and she wouldnt bat an eye even if someone killed him. I mean honestly either the start should have been written better where we do understand that she was deeply affected because of her divorce or just STOPPPPP. Even for fiction it is annoying....
