“Why didn't you tell me your injuries were this serious?”
Lysander had been too busy with other matters while accompanying him to the doctor, so she hadn't been there during the first dressing change. Now, she could see firsthand the extent of his injuries.
The burns were particularly gruesome. His waist was covered in large blisters where the flames had licked him. Due to his repeated aggravation and lack of proper treatment, scarring seemed likely. This was the result after the villagers had treated him with their traditional methods.
Lysander couldn't imagine how he managed to travel to the mountain village with such severe injuries on the day the warehouse burned down. Her voice trembled as she asked, “The industrial zone is far away from the village. Did you take a taxi?”
“Yeah, I even got turned down once.” Josiah truthfully replied, “I took a taxi to town, but the driver refused to go further even when I offered more money. Luckily, someone from the construction team who was out shopping happened to bring me in. I guess I was lucky.”
Josiah described his arduous journey to the village as if he were recounting the trials of a pilgrimage. There was a faint cheerful note in his words.
Lysander sensed the danger he had faced. “Didn't you ever think about what would happen if something went wrong on the way, what would happen to Madam Susan?”
At that moment, she almost blurted out to ask, If something were to happen to him, what would Aurora and I do? Will I really have to choose someone to take over Thorne Constructions and Energies?
“I did think about it,” Josiah replied seriously.
“I've actually planned everything in advance. Did you...” he paused, unconsciously touching his nose, realizing his awkwardness. Instead, he asked her, “Do you remember what I said at the fire scene?”
At that critical moment, he couldn't afford to worry about anything else. He could only prioritize and deal with the most urgent matters.
Looking back, it was truly embarrassing.
Lysander handed him a towel wrung out in hot water. “Of course, I remember. If you hadn't come back, I would've had to make another trip to the bank and scare people with the shareholder contract. There's no turning back after that is done. Once it's revealed, if we ever have a falling out, I might go back on my word, and you won't be able to return to the Guerra Group.”
As Lysander had already learned the truth, Josiah took the towel to wipe himself off. He explained quietly, “I didn't mean to keep it from you. I just thought you might not want what I offered.”
She had severed ties with him cleanly. The shares, which others coveted, were a burden to her.
Fearing Josiah might relapse into a fever, Lysander turned on the heater. The bathroom suddenly felt unusually warm, almost hot.
“I'm really not interested in those things. If you give me shares, I'd rather you build more hospitals and schools in the village,” she said, pushing up her sleeves to reveal her smooth forearms.
Josiah agreed without hesitation, “Once the new hospital in the village is completed, I'll continue to coordinate support for the mountain villages that are in need. By the way, do you have any additional opinions on the foundation?”
This was likely the matter that most concerned Lysander among that pile of documents, far outweighing the potential wealth and power that could fall into her hands.
After careful consideration, Lysander replied, “No, your thoughts are thorough enough. The foundation should be managed by professionals. My amateur opinions would only cause trouble.”
He was back, so she should withdraw from anything related to Guerra Group. She just said, “You should focus on your own injuries for now. We can talk about these matters later.”
“Yeah, okay.”
The bathroom's ceiling light cast a soft glow, giving her face a gentle radiance. She looked at Josiah earnestly, treating him like a patient who needed care.
“Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere else?”
Josiah's throat tightened. “Not at the moment. But could you not leave just yet?”
Patiently, Lysander said, “I never said I was leaving. The doctor said you can't put weight on your injured leg until the bone fully heals. If you do, you'll risk complications, from a limp at best to needing crutches permanently.”
All her previous patients had been women. It felt strange now to be caring for a male patient.
Fortunately, Josiah was a familiar face.

Update pls~...
Why no update ???...
Chapters 692 693 ans 694 are impossible to read. Not sure if there was an issue with translation.but the words do not make sense..impossible to follow story line...
I cant get over the fact that the writer is trying to show as if the male lead has committed a grave sin. First he didnt know she was pregnant because she never told him. Second right from the start she never communicated anything. She was unbothered even during her marriage. I am not saying the male lead is great but atleast he seems like a human with emotions unlike her. And there is no context for why she is so emotionless....
The female lead is not charming but an unbothered b word, there is a very big difference. There is no point of extending this story at all because even if you write 1000+ chapters at 1001 the male lead would still be doing everything for her and she wouldnt bat an eye even if someone killed him. I mean honestly either the start should have been written better where we do understand that she was deeply affected because of her divorce or just STOPPPPP. Even for fiction it is annoying....
