"Mr. Adams, you haven't been the best brother, have you? There are some people you should get to know, and there are others you should stay away from. I hope you understand what I'm saying!"
"I’ve got it!" Cody quickly replied. He was not dumb, he could read between the lines of what Charles was saying.
He realized that Winter was not someone to be friends with, and this mess probably had something to do with Winter too. Charles's willingness to meet and his words gave Cody a little hope. "Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Hoffman."
"Mr. Adams, I'm not one for wasting words, and I really don't like it when people say one thing and do another," Charles said, putting down his cup. "I can overlook what happened with the Adams Group, and I can forgive your sister's past mistakes. However, I have one condition!"
"Please tell me, Mr. Hoffman!" Cody's heart leaped with joy. Charles's words meant he was willing to give the Adams Group another chance. Even though they were barely hanging on, they could make a comeback someday as long as they stayed afloat.
"It's simple. Have your sister act out a scene!"
"A scene?" Cody was confused. "What scene?"
Charles's lips twisted into a sly smile as he signaled Ronald, who quickly stepped forward. "It's going to be quite the show, Mr. Adams."
After Charles had gone, Ronald handed Cody something. "Mr. Adams might not be aware, but the plan was simply to give us a warning that day... Ms. Shaw. However, someone changed Annie's orders and slipped a venomous snake in instead. Do you realize what that means, Mr. Adams? If we hadn't found it in time, we could have lost a life, and your sister... Do you understand what could have happened to her?"
