Although Brian knew Noelle's position, Noelle did not want to show any favoritism in front of anyone.
"Chill, it's strictly business!" Charles retorted with a huff. "You think your hubby can't keep work and play separate?"
Noelle narrowed her eyes, gave a small nod, and whispered under her breath, "However, isn't that exactly what you do?"
Phone in hand, Charles paused mid-dial and shot Noelle a quick, sidelong glance. She quickly looked away, feigning innocence.
With a resigned shake of his head, Charles dialed Brian. "Mr. Parker, Noelle's free this afternoon, right? I need to borrow her for a bit!"
Brian hesitated, his lips tightening. "Yes!" He said it, but inwardly he was kicking himself and throwing a little shade Charles's way for good measure.
Had their boss really gotten so bad at keeping things professional? The project department was swamped, and there Charles was, whisking Noelle away. After all, she was Brian's ace.
Charles escorted Noelle out of Collosus Group, and only when they were cruising down City Ring Avenue did she ask again, "You said this was business? So where to? We're not going to pick someone up at the airport, are we?"
Charles gave her a sly look. "Noelle, you're on the ball!"
Noelle's expression dropped a bit. "Seriously, you're the head honcho of a major corporation now. Do you really have to pick up every visitor from the airport?" She couldn't resist ribbing him. "So, who's the VIP this time?"
"You'll see when we get there." Charles teased, a grin he could not quite hide spreading across his face.
