The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) novel Chapter 723

“You…” Milo’s face turned crimson, and he nearly passed out from anger. He stared unblinking at Charles, his chest heaving as he said, “Charles, I am your uncle! Is this how you speak to your elders?”

The corner of Charles’ lips curled upward, and the look in his eyes did not change either. He seemed cool as a cucumber and much calmer than Milo. Charles poured Milo another cup of tea and then pushed it toward him. “Don’t be angry, Uncle Milo. Have some tea to soothe your throat and calm yourself down. It would not do good to have your health suffer because of your temper!”

Charles had maintained an attitude of not having a care in the world all this while. Milo held a powerful position, but he had never met anyone as rational as Charles during his previous negotiations. It was obvious the sort of people Charles spoke to were of a different kind to his.

Others may have refrained from acting overly audacious before him to show him respect, but that was not the case for Charles, who did not seem to care that he was his uncle.

Upon realizing this, Milo regretted meeting Charles and playing his most powerful card too quickly. Not only had he failed to garner any favors from Charles, but he had also exposed his vulnerabilities. Charles Hoffman was no easy force to reckon with.

Milo had wanted to meet Charles because he wanted to get a better understanding of how genuine Charles was and had not expected himself to end up on the side of failure.

“Do things really have to be this way? I hurried here from Capiton so I could discuss Janet’s marriage with you. No matter what, Janet is a clean and innocent girl. Meanwhile, based on my knowledge, Winter Shaw is not only married but also has a pretty lousy reputation in Brookville. If you get together with a woman like her, it’s not just me, but the Hoffman family who will not approve of this.”

Milo realized that coming in at full force would not work against Charles and switched his attitude. “Winter is a married woman, and that alone is enough for her to not be competition for Janet. I know you’re just speaking out of anger. That woman is no match for you.”
