"You..." Peter clenched his fists. "Tania has nothing to do with Zara."
"Really?" Jack drawled. "Like father, like son, huh? Some traits just run in the family, especially since your granddad, a.k.a. my dad, had some odd habits."
Peter's face turned stormy, and he let out a frosty huff. "Now that you're back again, you ought to swing by the Lennon estate sometime. We wouldn't want Sir Lennon thinking you kicked the bucket somewhere, would we?"
Jack's face twitched at that, but Peter pressed on, "Your darling niece Ari has been with the Lennons all these years, just hoping for the day she'd get to see her Uncle Jack again."
With those words hanging in the air, Peter walked out of the hotel with determined steps.
Tania was driving like she was in a high-speed chase, with the windows down all the way, letting the sharp wind blast through her hair and tousle her up.
Her hands were clamped on the wheel, but her head was replaying the confrontation she had just seen, hanging on every word exchanged between Peter and Jack.
She never would have guessed that Trevon, the kind soul who had looked after her for three years, was actually Jack Lennon—Peter's uncle, the youngest son of Xylos Lennon.
The whispers about Jack that Tania had caught were not many, but they all painted a picture of a guy who was sharp and calculating, a young hotshot who had made his mark in the business world before he was even twenty-five. Xylos had pegged Jack as the heir apparent, but then something went down, and just like that, Jack vanished from Brookville without a trace.
Tania had braced herself to meet an old man in his fifties named Jack, but to her surprise, it was Trevon—a man barely into his forties. He was the son of a woman who had once been the apple of Xylos's eye.
