The Day His Demands Broke My Water novel Chapter 65

"If you don't show up in half an hour, we're breaking up."

Reading the message, I couldn't help but nudge Declan Kenneth, who was driving beside me.

"Faster! My boyfriend is about to break up with me!"

Declan, unbothered, kept driving at his own pace.

"If he breaks up with you, so be it. The next one will be even better!"

"How about I introduce you to a college guy?"

Suggesting college guys for his own wife—only Declan Kenneth could pull something like that off.

But I wasn't surprised in the slightest. It wasn't his first time doing this. After all, my current boyfriend was thanks to Declan's generous arrangement.

Declan's phone kept ringing. He glanced at it and tossed it aside.

The ringtone persisted. Irritated, I picked it up.

The caller ID read: "160 Sweet School Belle."

Not even a proper name.

It was probably his newest girlfriend.

I glanced at Declan. He didn't react.

I answered the call.

A coy, affected voice came through.

"Darling~ you finally answered! I was wrong. Can you come see me? I miss you so much!"

"Darling, I promise I'll never ask you to divorce your wife again!"

As she spoke, the girl started crying.

Declan glanced at me. I quickly pretended it was a slip of the hand and handed him the phone.

Taking the phone, Declan replied impassively, "Got it. I'll be there soon."

Right after he hung up, the navigation system announced, "You are off course. Recalculating route!"

Frustrated, I glared at Declan.

"Are you serious? My boyfriend is about to dump me!"

Unmoved, Declan responded, "Relax. He's bluffing."

I didn't believe a word Declan said. I fidgeted, wanting to jump out of the car, but also fearing for my safety.

Fortunately, the girlfriend's house wasn't far.

I watched as Declan retrieved a bag from the trunk and walked to the girl.

She accepted it happily but said something that made her throw the bag back to the ground.

I had no interest in their soap opera drama. Checking the time, I urged, "Are you two back together now? Let's hurry to the next stop."

The girl froze, then approached me.

"Why does he want to break up with you?"

I stammered, too afraid to answer.

Of course, I couldn't let Declan know that my boyfriend was his dear brother.

A brother who'd even encouraged me to divorce him.

Declan Kenneth and I had an arranged marriage.

Before we got married, we moved in the same circles, and everyone knew each other.

I had witnessed my so-called "friends" compete over whose parents were richer, then move on to whose husband had more mistresses.

Little did I know, I wouldn't escape the fate of having a cheating husband either.

At first, I fought back. Whenever I made a scene, he would break up with one of them.

But my speed at causing a fuss couldn't keep up with his speed at finding new women.

Eventually, I got tired. Declan got tired too.

One day, he arranged a private room full of college guys for me and, in front of his friend Erik Williamson, made a deal with me.

"Selena, monogamy is practically non-existent in our circle. How about we each do our own thing and stay out of each other's way?"

I knew the perfect marriage I had once dreamed of was never going to happen. Besides, I never had any deep feelings for Declan in the first place. So, I neither accepted nor refused his proposal.

Declan took my silence as agreement. He left in a hurry after taking a phone call, but not before instructing Erik to "make sure she's well taken care of."
