The Day His Demands Broke My Water novel Chapter 67

"Selena, there are plenty of men out there. If one doesn't work, just find another. If we divorce, we'll both be taking on responsibilities we can't afford—at least several billion are at stake."

"Not this one. I really like him."

As I spoke to Declan, I reached out to smooth Erik's furrowed brows.

Declan scoffed.

"Like' is the cheapest thing. Learn from me—if you really care, throw some money at him. Don't come at me with this divorce nonsense."

"He doesn't need money. I'll have the divorce papers sent to you tomorrow."

There was a pause before Declan's tone changed.

"You're not talking about that college guy I set up for you, are you? Whoever it is, Selena, you'd better think clearly and remember your parents."

Declan, fully aware of the importance of our arranged marriage, assumed I was simply infatuated and ended the call after his warning.

Erik looked somewhat incredulous. After all, he'd brought this up countless times, only for me to refuse. Now, with just a casual remark, it was actually happening.

I met Erik's gaze and promised,

"I'll talk to my parents when I get home, and then I'll divorce him."

Erik studied me.

"You're serious?"

"Would I lie to you after saying it right in front of you?"

"I'll have someone keep an eye on your family's business. There won't be any issues."

I smiled.

"You didn't even have to say that; I already knew."

Even if Erik didn't intervene, I had been preparing for this since the moment I realized how I felt about him.

After all, Erik might tolerate our current ambiguous relationship for a while, but I couldn't let it remain in the shadows forever.

Erik leaned in and kissed me softly.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning into the kiss.

His large hand cradled the back of my head.

Just as we were about to deepen the kiss, Erik's phone rang.

I glanced at the caller ID and sighed, rubbing my temples.

"Erik, my wife wants a divorce. I'm devastated. Come to the bar and have a drink with me!" Despite his words, Declan's tone sounded far too cheerful.

Erik glanced at me.

"Sure," he replied without hesitation.

I figured Erik probably wanted to see for himself if Declan was truly "devastated."

Honestly, I wanted to see it too.

I arrived at the bar with Erik Williamson, riding in his car.

Meanwhile, Erik seemed to have developed a taste for calling me "sister-in-law."

He handed me a glass of wine.

"Sister-in-law, have a drink."

I accepted the glass, using the opportunity to discreetly pinch his hand.

I had to admit, there was something thrilling about this, with my husband sitting right next to me.

But I noticed a few people watching us and quickly withdrew my hand.

Still, I overheard their whispers.

"Did I just see sister-in-law touch Erik's hand?"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"When Erik handed her the drink, she touched his hand, and he didn't pull away!"

"Do you think they're having an affair? Sister-in-law and Erik came here together, after all."

"Are you crazy? That's Erik Williamson you're gossiping about. If he hears you, you're done for."

The chatter died down briefly, but someone timidly piped up again.

"But have you ever seen Erik pour a drink for anyone before?"

"......"
