The Day His Demands Broke My Water novel Chapter 91

The others, seeing this, quickly chimed in, completely ignoring what had just happened.

Linda's disgusted gaze fell on me, her judgment high and mighty.

"Susan, you really don't love yourself."

I looked at the shameless people around me, then at Peter.

For the first time, I showed my true disgust.

Peter froze at the sight of my unmasked disdain.

After all, we had been childhood friends for so many years. From the childhood admiration and reliance to the humble attempts to please him as we grew older,

I had never looked at him with such a gaze.

Peter's expression changed, but before he could say anything, he was interrupted by Linda.

She hooked her arm around Peter's and looked at me disapprovingly:

"Susan, although Peter has never said it, I know that you and him are childhood friends, and your feelings for him are not ordinary."

"But you can't do things like this just to attract Peter's attention."

"Look at you now—how are you still acting like a proper woman?"

I slowly turned my head and looked at myself in the mirror.

The woman in the mirror was disheveled, her makeup a mess, her clothes half hanging off.

If I weren't still holding them up with my hand, they would've probably already fallen off.

At first glance, I really did look like one of those streetwalkers.

I paused for a moment, then suddenly burst into a low laugh.

I laughed at myself for being so foolish, for letting myself be reduced to such a miserable state over a man like Peter.

Linda continued to berate me:

"Love others, but first love yourself. Susan, if you treat yourself this lightly, how can you expect others to love you?"

Peter's eyes lit up as he gazed at Linda, clearly smitten by her kind, principled demeanor.

I slowly stood up, fixing my gaze on the two of them.

Peter was tall and handsome, Linda petite and cute. At first glance, they did seem like a perfect match.

I put on an expression as if I had just realized something, then smiled lightly:

"You're right, I'll never bother you again, Peter."

Linda nodded in satisfaction.

But Peter's expression froze for a moment.

A flash of anger and disbelief flickered in his eyes.

"Do you know what you're saying, Susan?!"

I nodded firmly:

"I wish you a successful proposal and a lifetime of happiness with Linda."

"Susan, who is he?"

But no one paid him any attention.

I turned my head to look at the newcomer.

It was Sam.

My boyfriend, whom I had known for just half a month.

His brows furrowed slightly as he gently hugged me, concern in his voice: "What happened? Why are you in such a mess?"

The warmth from his coat seeped into my body, slowly calming my restless heart.

But all the hurt I had been holding back suddenly surged up in that moment.

I couldn't help but redden my eyes, shaking my head softly: "I'm fine."

After spending the past half month with him, I knew Sam was a good person, thoughtful and perfect in every way for me.

But because of this, I didn't want him getting involved with Peter and the others.

Sam gently ruffled my hair, comforting me: "Sorry, I came late."

"You must have been hurt by something, and all I wanted was to give you a surprise. I never thought I'd end up hurting you instead."

A warm feeling surged within me, and I gave him a genuine smile: "It's really nothing, I'm happy right now."

Sam finally sighed in relief and led me further inside.
