Bella’s expression changed drastically as she shot to her feet, her voice trembling with urgency, “Big Brother, why didn't you tell me something this serious earlier?!”

Asher said, “You’ve been really busy lately…”

“So what if I’m busy? Even if I’m so exhausted I vomit blood, I’ll still crawl back—I only have one dad!” Bella’s eyes turned red with panic.

She grabbed the jacket draped over the chair and rushed to leave. “Is Dad stable now? I'm heading back right away!”

“Bella, wait a second, listen to me.” Asher let out a sigh. His voice was heavy as he continued, “The reason Dad was hospitalized so suddenly this time has a bit to do with you…”

Bella froze mid-step. “What do you mean?”

“His wives and I have been trying to distract Dad these past few days, watching TV and playing cards with him. We were afraid he’d find out that you joined Salvador Corporation’s board and withdrew from the A5 project.”

Asher’s voice was laced with helplessness. “But despite all our precautions, we didn’t anticipate that one of Dad’s business associates would call him up just to talk about it. When Dad found out, he flew into a rage. He said that you’re a traitor to the Thompson family.”

Bella furrowed her brows and pressed a hand to her forehead in frustration, her chest feeling so stuffed it was hard to breathe.

“Dad just took his medicine and is asleep now. Bella, come later and have a good talk with him.”

Bella’s voice was dull, but she forced herself to sound composed. “Thanks, Ash. I understand.”
