Seeing the state James was in, Mirabella offered, "Let me drive."
James looked like he hadn't caught much sleep lately. Without a second thought, he handed her the keys, then settled himself into the passenger seat.
Mirabella gave the keys a quick twirl around her fingers before sliding into the driver's seat. Once the engine roared to life, they left the hospital behind in no time.
About thirty minutes later, Mirabella parked in James's garage, turned off the engine, and glanced over at James. With his eyes closed, he seemed to be catching some much-needed rest, so she let him be for the moment.
Her gaze must have lingered on his face because it wasn’t long before he opened his eyes, and they seemed fully alert, without a hint of sleepiness.
Mirabella coolly looked away, unbuckled her seatbelt, and gently said, "We're here."
James lifted an eyebrow, unbuckled his seatbelt, and stepped out of the car. They walked into the house one after the other.
As Mirabella browsed a food delivery app on her phone, she said without looking up, "You should get some rest. I’ll wake you when lunch arrives."
"Alright," James replied, removing his coat to reveal a thermal shirt underneath.
After placing the order, Mirabella noticed a hint of antiseptic in the air, prompting her to ask, "Did you get hurt?"
"Just a scratch," James shrugged it off. But after a pause, he asked, "Could you help me change the dressing later?" pointing to his lower back.
Mirabella glanced in the direction he pointed but didn't say anything.
Sensing her hesitation, James quickly added, "Just kidding, I can handle it."
He gave Mirabella a quick pat on the head, retrieved a first aid kit from a cabinet in the side hall, and headed upstairs.
Mirabella tilted her head, watching until James disappeared at the top of the stairs, then finally decided to follow him up.
