The leader of the group was a bit taken aback this time. Their target was different than usual. But in the end, she was just a young woman. Besides a touch of caution, he wasn’t too worried about capturing her.
Cutting to the chase, he asked, “Are you coming with us nicely, or do we have to persuade you? Just so you know, it might get rough if we do.”
“Who sent you?” Mirabella asked casually, her fingers slowly rolling up her sleeves.
The man let out a small laugh, “In our business, we don’t ask for names.”
Mirabella shook her head in mock sympathy, “That’s tough luck for you, not even knowing who’s pulling your strings.”
The man furrowed his brow, confused by her words.
Before he could give it more thought, in the blink of an eye, the girl who had been standing a ways off was suddenly right in front of him.
Startled, he heard her voice, calm and steady, “Let me teach you something: not knowing who hired you could be a fatal mistake.”
Mirabella smirked, and with a quick, precise move, she jabbed a silver needle she carried into a point on the man's back. He hit the ground before he could even react.
Seeing this, the rest of the group looked shocked but quickly sprang into action, attacking Mirabella with everything they had, their movements aggressive and desperate.
Five minutes later, Mirabella calmly rolled her sleeves back down, glancing dismissively at the men now sprawled out on the ground.
Completely useless, she thought. How do they even justify their jobs?
Mirabella clicked her tongue in irritation, headed back to her car, and grabbed her phone from the console to check the time. She noticed a missed call from Nick earlier.
Surprised, she started the engine and gave him a call back.
The line connected quickly.
