Joen was so mad he actually fainted. His assistant panicked and called an ambulance right away. Naturally, when another ambulance rolled into campus, the students were all buzzing, wondering if something big had gone down again, like the previous day.
Meanwhile, Mirabella stepped out of the restroom. "Mirabella, you feeling alright?" Robert, who’d been waiting outside forever, asked with genuine concern when he finally saw her.
"Yeah, maybe I caught a chill from falling in the water yesterday," Mirabella said, giving her stomach a little rub for show.
Robert didn't question it. He thought for a moment and suggested, "Maybe you should head back to the hotel and rest up. This afternoon's seminar is just a load of formalities anyway."
Robert's such a good guy! Mirabella mused silently, then reassured him, "No worries, Professor, I can handle it."
Robert gave her a once-over, "Alright, but let me know if you're not feeling up to it."
Mirabella nodded. It wasn’t really about the seminar; Joen's lab was in chaos, and the school might lock everything down. Leaving suddenly would probably make people suspicious.
Soon enough, she and Robert met up with Blaze and the crew. Instead of heading to the cafeteria for lunch with them, Mirabella went to find Grady.
With the lab incident, the school had shut down all entrances and exits. Even though Grady was a VIP guest of Mr. Hammond, security was on high alert. Mr. Hammond figured it was best to have Grady escorted to the guest lounge, where he could relax, and had some food sent over.
Grady had no plans to leave, so the setup was just fine by him. In the lounge, it was just him and Xiao Xie, no other professors in sight.
"The campus is on lockdown," Xiao Xie noted, returning from the window and glancing at Grady, who looked as calm as ever, not a hint of tension despite being the brains behind the whole mess. Even Xiao Xie's update didn’t faze him.
