The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1692

Inside the box was a tiny, light brown sugar glider. The moment Santos opened the box, the little creature made a beeline for him and ended up perched right on his shoulder.

Seeing this, Santos gently stroked the glider's head, then picked it up, holding it in mid-air. "Alright, little one, time to show what you’ve got."

The glider kicked its legs as if trying to escape from his grasp. Santos couldn’t help but smirk. In no time, he injected a prepped vial of serum into the glider.

After he was done, he placed the glider back in the box. With a snap of his fingers, he locked the lid, a cold, predatory grin playing on his lips. No one slips through his fingers.

**By around nine in the morning, Mirabella finally stirred awake. As she opened her eyes, she saw Cassie snoozing, sprawled over the edge of the bed.

Mirabella glanced over at him, then sat up, catching a whiff of lingering herbal scents in the air, and raised an eyebrow. The kid had clearly learned a thing or two from hanging around her.

Looking around the unfamiliar room, she quickly got out of bed, feeling the plush carpet under her bare feet. She gently covered Cassie with the blanket and quietly slipped out of the room.

As soon as she stepped into the hallway, James appeared at the top of the staircase.

Their eyes met.

James paused briefly, his gaze dropping to her bare feet before he strode over. "You're up. How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay..." Mirabella started to say, but before she could finish, James had already scooped her up in his arms.

"The floor's cold," James said, pulling her closer to his chest, his chin resting on top of her head. "Sorry I wasn’t there sooner." The apology in his voice stirred something warm inside her. She placed her hand over his, murmuring softly, "I know what I'm doing. I wouldn’t let anything happen to me."

James wasn’t sure whether to be frustrated or amused by her words. With a sigh, he said, "Mirabella, your boyfriend’s not exactly a pushover."
