The man let out a heavy sigh as he crouched to gather the scattered gun parts from the ground. "She's part of the Davis family, so finding the Count's place would be a breeze for her. Rather than trying to hide, it's better to just come clean."
The others went silent, absorbing his words. Coming clean might just be their ticket to staying alive. Their loyalty to Count Murray only went as far as their survival.
"And remember, not a peep about today's fiasco to anyone. If Count Murray inquires, just say the Davis family had airtight security, and there was no way for us to make a move." The man stressed his point.
He wasn’t entirely sure why the girl had given such a warning, but staying alive meant playing it safe.
Before long, the group headed back to report.
Count Murray's secretary was in charge of the task to capture Mirabella. When he heard the mission had flopped, his face twisted in frustration. "You botched such a simple job? What are you even here for?"
"Sorry, but the Davis family had someone tailing her constantly, so we never got a chance."
Rubbing his forehead, the secretary didn't doubt their explanation. After a pause, he said, "Keep an eye out for another chance."
"Got it."
Just then, the secretary's phone rang. He lifted a hand, signaling silence before answering.
The call was from the detective he’d hired to dig into the girlfriend of someone important at the weapons bureau.
After a quick chat, the detective emailed him some findings.
The secretary opened the email, and his eyes widened as he sat up straight.
