"No way." Nellie paused, adding, "In this world, only Cassie can help, no one else."
Mirabella's eyes narrowed slightly, sensing there was more to Nellie's words. If it was about a direct blood relation... Could that kid be related to her Chester? "Nellie, what about Cassie's background?"
"Now's not the time to discuss this," Nellie replied quietly.
Mirabella understood her well enough not to push further. "Got it."
The call ended soon after.
Nellie clutched her phone, her pale face clouded with a complicated expression. After a long pause, she let out a soft sigh.
Some things can't stay hidden forever. She just hoped the kid wouldn't hold it against her in the future.
Meanwhile, Mirabella called James.
"Can you do me a favor?"
James picked up on the seriousness in her voice. "What do you need?"
"Help me get my brother here as quickly as possible." Mirabella felt a wave of relief.
Relief that the kid was in Merrywoods; otherwise, it might have been too late to help Chester today.
"Alright," James agreed. "Is something wrong?"
Mirabella acknowledged with a hum and cleared her hoarse throat. "Chester's been seriously injured."
James remembered how last year, she fell into a deep sleep for days after saving her brother Nick. His expression darkened. "Did you do it again?"
Mirabella rubbed her forehead with her fingertips and coughed, "Performed a surgery?"
James furrowed his brow, asking, "Are you wearing the necklace?"
Mirabella touched her bare neck, hesitant to admit she lost it a few days ago. "...Yes."
"Got it. See you in an hour."
With that, the call ended.
Mirabella: "..."
Soon after, Mirabella received a few images from Nellie.
