The Educator novel Chapter 46

Elliot and I were just staring and our parents enjoying our home. They were talking and discussing business, what to do and what not to do with the décor of the house. It was so weird. We were just sitting there as if WE were the guests. My and Elliot’s plate were both full of food but we weren’t eating.

“So, what made you decide on adopting a dog?” my mom asks.

“Well, uhm, he’s a good stress reliever and when I’m out late, I could rely on him to take care of Eli” Elliot says.

“Look at these two. Like the couple we once were!” Elliot’s mom looked at us as if she envied us. Elliot’s mother has this giant green ring that was supposed to be an engagement ring turned into one of the most expensive heirlooms. “So, puppies then a home then what’s next?” Elliot’s dad asks.

“It’s too early to tell! What are you talking about?” Elliot was touching my hand under the table. Elliot was playing with my foot too.

Our parents were just chatting endlessly, like we weren’t even there. Then, Elliot’s father says, “When are you going to start training at the office?”

I blink my eyes several times, “Oh uhm …. Elliot and I were talking about my semi-internship at the office. I think I’ll be handling business systems operations.”

“Why don’t; you handle marketing instead?” Elliot suggests, “it’ll be perfect for you”

“Well, I think it’s easier to market a business when I know how it really works and not just how it looks” I tell him.

“Well, what’s there to know? That’s why you’ll have an assistant” Elliot says. It’s like his tone is annoyed at this point.
