Felicia rushed to Owen's bedside. Tears spilled down her face like a broken string of pearls. "Owen, wake up. Look at me. It's Mom... I'm right here..." she cried.
After a long while, she finally turned her tear-filled eyes toward Kylie and asked, "What the hell happened? Why is Owen like this?"
"I'm sorry... Mrs. Lloyd, I'm so sorry," Kylie choked out, guilt written all over her face. At that moment, she would've traded places with him if she could. "He got hit trying to save me. None of this would've happened if it weren't for me."
"Why?" Felicia shouted, her eyes burning into Kylie with pure rage. The moment she realized Owen had nearly died for Kylie, any trace of warmth that Felicia had toward her vanished.
"Was the crash an accident or something else?" she demanded and shot a sharp glance at Samuel.
Samuel stood tall, perfectly composed in his crisp, custom-made white shirt and tailored slacks. Young, yes—but with a commanding presence that exuded authority. He didn't need to speak to make people feel the weight of him in the room.
Kylie pressed her lips together and truthfully answered, "The driver who hit him was poisoned in prison. So yes, it was premeditated. But we haven't found out who's behind it yet."
"Premeditated?" Felicia's eyes widened in shock. Her blood pressure surged, and her hands trembled.
And then—without warning—she slapped Kylie across the face.
It had come out of nowhere, and not even Samuel had time to stop it.
Kylie's head jerked to the side.
Her cheek stung, hot and sharp.
"Logan!" Samuel's voice was thick with fury. "Get this woman—"
"Don't." Kylie quickly cut him off. "If Owen hadn't saved me, I'd be dead. A slap doesn't even begin to cover that."
