Back at Haven House, Madison eventually let Mia and the others go.
As soon as Yara stepped out, she couldn’t resist diving into gossip. “Doesn’t Owen like you? That’s what it looks like on TV. You folks these days are so much more complicated in romance than we were back in my day!”
Madison shook her head. “Dating might be complicated, but we’re open about other things. It’s all very messed up.”
Madison then said, “It’s just work. He doesn’t like me.”
Heading back to the kitchen, Madison began to prepare a meal.
Yara floated over. “You have money, so why not hire someone to cook for you? You’ve been through so much. You shouldn’t have to cook for yourself.”
Madison smoothly cleaned and sliced the vegetables, “You’re all imbued with negative energy aside from me. It’s not good for other people to interact with you excessively, especially if it harms you too,”
Mia lowered her head sadly. If it weren’t for them, Madison would still be with the Locke family and wouldn’t have to worry about cooking
Madison cooked a pasta dish. After she finished eating, she turned to the three who were gathered and whispering. She said softly,” I’m going to rest now. Please don’t go out without telling me.”
“Okay,” they replied.
After returning to her room, Madison sat cross–legged to meditate.
Suddenly, the system popped up and said, “Ms. Locke, your spiritual energy consumption from tracking that talisman was quite high. You seem tired”
Madison replied, “Yes…”
The system continued and said, “If you’re so tired, you should’ve just refused Owen’s request. I don’t think he would’ve pressured you.
Madison fell silent.
“Ms. Locke, don’t forget that your spiritual energy is meant to combat the favored ones of the heavens, Rebecca. If you keep using it so carelessly, you’ll end up being controlled by her!”
The systems continued to lecture, and when it saw that Madison was unresponsive, it sighed heavily. “I finally found a ghost shrine to help you increase your spiritual energy, and now, you’ve used it all up so quickly! What a waste of my efforts.”
Madison kept her eyes closed, but this time, she didn’t ignore the system.
“Did you hear what Owen said? The manuscript is crucial for the research, If it falls into the wrong hands, it could threaten national
Security
The system replied, “Is that the reason? Just because the manuscript is important, you spent a lot of spiritual energy to retrieve it?”
“Yes,” said Madison
The system was still puzzled, but it understood Madison’s mindset. “Ms. Locke, you haven’t forgotten that you’re a cultivator, right?”
Madison replied, “Of course not!”
The system said, “Cultivators are meant to transcend the three realms and exist outside the five elements.”
