Chapter 140 

When Charlie heard what his father said, a troubled expression appeared on his face. 

Someone typed, “What the hell? I know that in certain parts of the country, elder sisters are still regarded as slaves to their younger brothers, but I didn’t know that big brothers are also tortured.” 

Another person replied, “Oh, the viewer who made the comment above is too innocent. It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl. If your parents play favorites, then you’ll be a slave to your siblings.” 

“That guy’s life is so hard. I feel bad for him,” wrote another viewer. 

Someone else typed, “I think his fiancée has it worse. Marrying someone like that will condemn her into a lifetime of dealing with horrible in–laws.” 

Stanley was still scolding Charlie at the time. 

“If you won’t talk about it, then I will! Demi’s parents are here too, right? I’ll go talk to them myself. If they want their daughter to marry into our family, then they must at least do something for us. Our family’s door isn’t open to just anyone.” 

As Stanley spoke, he turned around to leave. 

Charlie quickly grabbed Stanley’s arm to stop him. 

Charlie’s fiancée, Demi Lang, saw the two men arguing and made her way over. She asked, “Charlie, Mr. Kent, what’s wrong?” 

Charlie immediately let go of his father and replied, “Nothing. It’s nothing.” 

Stanley smiled as well. After that, he quickly walked away. 

Charlie calmed Demi down before he told her everything his father had said. 

Demi didn’t know what to say. She was already aware of the situation with Charlie’s family. However, she never expected Stanley to be 

that unreasonable. 

That made her feel troubled. 

Charlie looked as though his heart was broken as well. Still, he promised, “Don’t worry. If he actually has the audacity to ask for money from your family, then I’ll cancel the wedding immediately. ” 

“Does that mean we won’t be getting married?” 

Charlie replied, “We’ll still get married, but I’ll marry into your family. There’s nothing he can do if I were to do that. He said that my family’s door isn’t open to just anyone, right? In that case, we won’t bother trying to get through that door at all.” 

After hearing that, Demi finally smiled. She wrapped her arm around Charlie’s and said, “You’re the best. Let’s head over for now. I’d rather not let our parents get into an argument.” 

Things were as they had expected. By the time they got there, Stanley had already voiced all of his requests. 

He acted as though he was in the right when he said, “I know your family is rich and doesn’t need the extra money. I’m not asking for much either. All I want is for you to buy my youngest son a house and a car in the city. Given the state your family is in, you can afford

Demi’s parents looked extremely upset at the time. 

If they weren’t educated and graceful people, they would have already gotten up and left. 

They waited until Demi was there before they dragged their daughter over. After that, they turned to Charlie and his family and said, ” It seems that being a part of your family truly comes at a truly high price. Our daughter can’t afford that, so goodbye.” 

After saying that, Demi’s parents dragged Demi away 

Hearing that got Stanley to panic. He quickly shot a look at Charlie to mediate 

Charlie made his way over and said to Demi’s parents, “I’m so sorry. My family is at fault here. My feelings for Demi are sincere, and I want to be with her. Since my family’s demands are harsh, may I know if your family’s demands are just as harsh? 

“I’m willing to marry into your family. If Demi is willing to bear my child, the baby will have your surname. I don’t have much now. All Thave is a little savings and a cat that’s only worth a few thousand dollars. That being said, I promise that I’ll work hard and give Derna a prod life” 

Stanley stared at Charlie in disbelief. He scolded, “How embarrassing will that be? A man marrying into a woman’s family? Our family
